Science. Science. Science. Follow the Science. Too much of what today is claimed to “be science” or “following the science” really isn’t. Science isn’t just making hypotheses (educated guesses) and then forming (jumping to) conclusions. There is way too much bias in those who justify their opinions with “We are following the Science.” And when you make wrong assumptions (like the groundhog-shadow-early spring belief), any conclusions are baseless.
The Groundhog Day is like modern science: The promise is that if the Groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, Spring is in six weeks. If it does see its shadow, winter for six more weeks. Think about it.
NOAA analyzed Punxsutawney Phil’s predictions from 2008 to 2018, he was right only 40% of the time. However NOAA admits a 10-day — or longer — forecast is only right about half the time. So it turns out Phil’s predictions of more than a month in advance is on par with NOAA forecast.
People ‘round here get too upset with Punxsutawney Phil’s predictions… I remind them that we live south of the Mason-Dixon line, and Phil’s a northerner – so his word don’t count ’round here…

The groundhog is in space. You don’t have seasons in space. Dump him on Venus and get on with your lives.

I’m waiting for the strip where the gopher tests positive for Covid-19 and everyone has to spend 6 more weeks in lockdown.

This year, the groundhog will not only see his shadow, he’ll also be wearing a face mask, and staying six feet apart from onlookers.

How much ground could a groundhog grind if a groundhog could grind ground?

He’s on a space station. He can play with the environmental controls to his heart’s content, or until the rest of the crew takes action.
