Abner is destined to be forever compared with Elmer Fudd, another genius who never caught “That Wascally Wabbit”!

    Good morning™, all!

Rikki is smarter than Abner, but he won’t listen. Abner, killing Tracy if the opportunity arises is not what the Apparatus requested!

I apologize for this comment being off topic, but I have to follow up on a tangental comment thread from a few weeks ago…

The classic 1964 Burt Lancaster film, The Train, has just been added to the Amazon Prime streaming service. It’s a fantastic movie with a good story, solid acting, and some spectacular action set pieces. Burt shows off his background as a circus acrobat by performing all of his own stunts, and even severely injured himself in the process. At its heart it’s a crime story about a Nazi art heist, so it should easily appeal to most every Dick Tracy fan.

The film very rarely is screened on TCM or any of the streaming services, so this is a somewhat special opportunity. Amazon Prime even has a 30-day free trial so it won’t cost anything (if you remember to cancel in time.) Do yourself a favor and check it out. I’ll even guarantee it — if you don’t come away thinking it was a really good film, I’ll reimburse you for the free trial!!

I hope Abner will listen to her. She love him and is totally right. Better not mess with Dick Tracy!

His contract is for Charlie. Tracy’s job, at the moment, is to protect Charlie. Rikki’s request is rather pointless under those circumstances. He’s sort of got to get through Tracy to kill Charlie (unless Charlie pulls another stupid/dangerous disappearing act). Poison gas? Would take them both out (and Sam). Or you can wait until they’re properly aligned and get two birds with one stone (although a bullet would be more effective).

Obsession, and love. Can be a bitter brew, but maybe Rikki may be successful. She’s also the smart one, in the relationship. But sadly she’s fallen into the same trap that all lovers have for their abusive partners.

Actually, I watched the movie on TCM, at least twice. Burt and Paul Scofield were excellent in their roles.

1-A/B: Let’s pretend we’re in 19th Century London and I’m Jack The Ripper

2-RIKKI T.T.: We don’t have time for games! We gotta work on how we’re gonna take out Charlie Snitchie. A/B: AND TRACY! DON’T FORGET! IT’S BOGO DAY!

3-RIKKI: Just focus on Charlie. Remember what my mom always told me – A bird in the hand is worth a kick in the bush!

A/B: What the…? So, just curious, what did she always tell you about a stich in time?

RIKKI: She’d say Means hit him harder next time!

A/B: No wonder you turned out weird… RIKKIE: Huh? A/B: Huh?

Abner is still taking a risk if he kills Tracy. The Apparatus stated they do not want Tracy killed because it will draw too much heat on them. If he kills Tracy he may have to face retaliation from the Apparatus, as well as, law enforcement.

@Artsy; I saw The Train while in Germany during its first release early 60s. Lancaster was at the height of his profession. Very, very good film. BTW, folk, if Ab doesn’t try to kill Dicko, you got no story, so calm down

Yeah…..right Abner…..two for the price of one…yet the Apparatus is going to just pay you for one job. Of course you could always tell them “this one’s a freebie”.

Abner is planning his “suicide” by Tracy or the Apparatus since he stated that he will be dying from his “condition” soon…And Rikki doesn’t want to be part of either…

Based on his dialogue in the 2nd panel, I wonder if Abner was a lawyer sometime in the distant past. Or a politician.

Rikki Mortis works hard for the Obsessed One’s well-being, but one way or another, there will be tears on pillow. Abner is a goner: he dies by cop (Tracy), or by double-crossed Apparatus, or by “natural causes”; in any case Rikki and any putative pregnancy is/are bereft.

That gal just ain’t got no luck!

—Unlike Charlie 21, who seems too lucky (unless Abner succeeds in offing him before succumbing himself)….

Yes, a very good film showcasing many supporting actors we have all seen in movies and TV shows. The juxtaposition of the artwork laying in the same ditches as the slain train workers with Burt basically shaking his head at the whole insanity of it all should have sent a strong message but alas, that was a different time.
