I’ve read the P2 dialogue 5 times and I still don’t understand it. “Your mother thinks that”. Her mother thinks what?? Her mother thinks that Mimi is her mother?
In all reality , No Ma , we’ll settle this here right now .Do you know that Mrs Thorp has 2 kids who disappeared years ago and are rumored to be held captive making tee shirts in a third world country ? Why no dear I didn’t. Look you stay away from my daughter if you know what’s good for you ! Let’s go Corina , time to get an order of protection for you . As for you Ms Mimi, better call Jake from State Farm ,you’ve been warned .
I hate authority, I hate organized sports, I hate your vending machine snacks, I hate my life, so I applied to several schools, got accepted, applied for grants to pay for it all and will be a walk-on in softball, volleyball, basketball, now ge lt out of my life, “coach”, and go burn all that paperwork you did mom
these “adults” have decided whats best for the kid. After previous comments over the past few days I have to wonder if Gilpa world is located anywhere near reality. Because in the real world girls softball is a very minor college sport, and a scholarship is not going to pay anything close to actual costs. Or is Mimi going to come up with the best of the money so CK is not saddled with life long crushing debt?
Come to that I do not believe I have ever seen a soldier or a military recruiter anywhere in this strip
I would love it if CK told mama that she had enlisted in the Army and would be leaving the day after graduation
One summer at Milford’s largest employer, the T&T High School Sports Memorabilia Company factory (Wildcat Maris, COO), and CK will be begging to go to that JUCO.
Snark Nation has it all wrong. We should be thanking Mimi. Her strategy of closing this storyline is brilliant. The sooner the better so we can get to Milford Country Club. And Kaylie can go ballistic for being abandoned on the driving range.
For all of you hoping that we’re off to Milford Country Club soon, remember that last year’s baseball/softball stories didn’t end until July 11. That means we’ve got almost three more weeks to tie up the Library Board seat, Zane’s pitching adventures, Zane’s romance , and the whole CK goes to college storylines. Buckle your seat belts. It’s going to get Fast and Furious very soon. Or not.
What is most ominous about today’s strip are the vast billows of smoke in P3 that are left behind in Mrs. Karenna’s wake. Is that where the high school used to stand? Or maybe the town library? Well, now that we’re rid of them, let’s go to the golf course!
Hopefully, the GoComics police don’t censor my comment above like they did with my earlier comment. (Breaking the rules of the ‘comment policy’ is a Bozo No-No)
This is just ludicrous. Her mom did all the work, and then Mimi just springs it on CK? Why? What possible reason would there be for her to do that instead of the mom talking to her about it? The only reason would be to piss off all of us. And I’d like to know how they managed to secure aid/scholarships, let alone apply to a college, without CK’s involvement. They forged her consent? Could there be jail time in the future for Mimi and mom?
I’m still flabbergasted that they know that a couple of specific girls will need a roommate in, I assume, two years at a university that she is not even starting out at.
And speaking of flabbergasted….well, I actually don’t have a use for flabbergasted in this reference to today’s Mopped Up Thorp. I just like typing the word flabbergasted.
P 4: “…actually, your goin’ to USC on a rowing scholarship….my friend Lori introduced me to some guy named Rick who does what he calls a ‘side-door application’ …the softball spots were filled, but we will send them some pics of you on a rowing machine…it’s golden…”
The “resolution” to this CK-doesn’t-want-to-go-to-college story arc is even weaker than the one to the Tessi-doesn’t-like-Vic’s-van story arc. I never imagined I possibly could ever want this, but can we just go back to the Zane-and-Abe showdown over the library computers instead? Anything is better than the way these stories are (not) being resolved. Bring back the peacock!

Go change – into a less disagreeable person who wants her softball coach to run her life.

P1, I’m nobody’s mother! Well, not anymore.
P2, Are you my mother?
P3, Shouldn’t that be “sweaty”, Mrs. CK?
