All of the other patrons had been adding their drinks on Pastis’s card. They told the bartender that Pastis owed them for all of the bad puns the suffered through.
I hope Pastis does not take it personally and still leaves the bartender a decent and fair tip and does not use the exchange as an excuse to stiff her! You are better than that Pastis though I bet Rat is probably a very cheap tipper!
Remember, Pastis is the guy who got Bill Watterson to come out of retirement for the first time several years ago to draw 3 PBS strips, so there’s that… PLUS, he used to be a Lawyer, so ANYTHING that leaves us with one less Lawyer in the world can’t be a bad thing!
Even if it means we have to endure some truly awful puns…
My kid was not a comics kid (alas) but he loved PBS. We went to see Pastis at a book signing (15 years ago?). He did a great presentation and my now-grown-kid has since tossed almost everything he had pre-college. But he still has his signed PBS books with the doodles Pastis did along with his signature.
Life advice: if you’re going to enter a store, please be considerate and don’t enter minutes before closing, or stay until after closing. We customer service workers greatly appreciate it.
Same thing happened to me yesterday afternoon. Good to be back at a bar in a restaurant! Although I had to show prof of vaccination and I.D. to get in. Not sure how I feel about that?!?
Um, I’m assuming he either handed her the card or left it on the bar at his seat for her to take and run through. So my question is why she had to ask if he was Stephan Pastis.

Is that what you’re going to leave her instead of a tip?

Is this strip inspired by actual events?

If a restaurant employee holding a credit card walks up to me and says “Are you Stephan Pastis?”, I would say yes.

You’ve got to give Stephan credit; he doesn’t have any cash.

I’m surprised the comic strip censor isn’t all over Rat for his name-calling. :-)

I sign everything “get bent”. I mean, since the incident. I used to sign everything “Ben Dover” but they made me stop.

Sure Stephan, she asked you for your autograph didn’t she?

He wrote a kids book called “Timmy Failure”? No wonder he’s a sad, miserable putz.
Sanspareil almost 3 years ago
At least he finished his beer between the second and third panels!
John Smith almost 3 years ago
Pastis has written 7 books in the “Timmy Failure” series for middle grade kids.
“Timmy Failure is a detective who can take any mystery and make it more mysterious”
Pastis is also a marketing genius – by cross marketing Timmy Failure with PBS he has all talking about both… for free! “Mo Money!”

Obviously a –not even exaggerated– autobiographic experience. Like most of of Stephan’s Timmy Failure books, too, I guess.

Maybe Garry Trudeau, because he’s got a famous wife.

How weird is this? Two people being called a “putz” in two separate comic strips on the same day.
