I was always annoyed when comics, including this one, were always going on about how 2020 was such a bad year, golly, it will so great when it’s over. Personally, my 2021 sucked! The deaths of two of my loved ones.
The days before social media were pretty good. Back when nobody complained as such, there was good stuff to watch on TV and we could pass the time away by just doing whatever.
The loony radical left wing Liberal mushrooms think these are the new good ol’ days. At least that’s what they’re told by the Liberal Media and the gang at The Ministry of Truth. And since they are living and living large off working people’s tax dollars, they may have a point. Let’s Go, Brandon!
Those were the days my friend We thought they’d never endWe’d sing and dance forever and a dayWe’d live the life we chooseWe’d fight and never loseFor we were young and sure to have our way
The 50s were great for growing up but then again I was a white child growing up in a white neighborhood I didn’t realize till the 60s what was going on in the world
The ‘80s and 90s were awful. Since 1946, the beginning for me, I can’t think of a decade that was any good. The first half of ’63, the year I finished high school was OK. September and October of 1954 when the Giants won the pennant and World Series were good.
“The Good Old Days”, and it’s close relative “Make American Great Again”, are our current “dog whistles”!
As a harmless and I hope politics-free example of the concept of “the good old days”, when Pat Buchanan was running for President (1996 or 2000, I think), some pundit made the comment that Buchanan was longing for the “good old days” when he could walk down the street and and not have to hear someone playing bongo drums on the corner.
Personally the good old days I would like to relive are the years 1983, and 1984. Grade 7 and 8… first girlfriend, top student in my class, Friends to hang out with, my immediate family were all alive, at least the ones I got to know (never met 3 of my 4 grandparents). Everything has gone steeply downhill since then.

Even if “normal” wasn’t great, it was still a whole lot better than abnormal.

1985 to 1999 were pretty good. The stock market crashed in 2000 followed by a couple wars.

Omicron spreads like wildfire, supplanting Delta, and is incredibly mild in symptoms. Fauci looks unconsolable.

There were rainbows and “corn” on the cob shared with others of the human race. The Americans that must go in for work, I fear for them.

Talking about the “Good Old Days” is like giving an eulogy. Rarely do eulogies mention all the bad things.

The good old days were when people weren’t offended by every single darned thing. I think I’ll go watch the movie “Blazing Saddles” (1974) now.
