I grew up in ‘Small Town’ America (population less than 2500), everyone knew everything about everyone else (or thought they did). When our family got together for holidays, the adults would sit around the living room drinking coffee and smoking and talking about everyone else. We kids would be in the next room reading, playing board games, and listening. Eventually my older sister would get up and saunter through the living room and say, “Isn’t it just so lucky that we are all related?” I’m not sure they ever ‘got the message’.
I used to have a couple of aunts that were experts in the field of analyzing everyone else’s faults – ignoring the fact that their own families were totally dysfunctional!
I’m looking for a cartoon that was in the 2021 desk calendar about a man wanting to hang a moose head in the house and the likelihood of his success in doing so. anyone k ow where I can find that?
One is not accepting of people outside the family that you want to join. Another is bitterness that sets in over time where you stop talking to each other
When my wife and I get separated in a large store, I relocate her by looking for an elderly lady with snowy white hair. Can’t remember what she was wearing.

Seems for some it’s always easier to see faults in others than in one’s self. But then for some behaviour speaks for itself.

Einstein had a theory about relatives.

There is something wrong with everyone’s family. No strangers need to point it out. Usually, we love them anyway. Bless their heart.

Of course I know what the theory of relativity is, it’s the theory you’re only allowed to tell your relatives.

My guess is that Muriel’s gimmick is to say “If you’re coming here to find out what’s wrong with OTHER people in your family, it’s you!”
