Not duct tape. Professionals never use it, not even on ducts. Gaffers tape is the way to go.

1: It may be CALLED “duct tape” but it’s a lousy choice for working on ducts (other than temporary). The original was Duck tape (a brand)… and it was used at first to fasten ammo boxes, if I recall correctly.

2: You fix bad duck tape by replacing it with GOOD duck tape… or fastening it some other way.

    More duct tape.

This is my experience as someone who grew up in Alaska. Some of our snowsuits were duct tape all the way down.

The interesting thing about duct tape is that you can’t take it off when you want to – but leave it alone long enough and it will fall off (even if you don’t want it to).

To fix bad duct tape, use more duct tape. Eventually you have so much duct tape, whatever you were fixing is basically a pile of duct tape. :-D

I have used duct tape – 1970s era- to seal a bathtubs and a car windshield. It lasted about six months, after which I would replace it.

If it moves and it shouldn’t – Duct Tape. If it doesn’t move and it should – WD40. Problem solved.

I live in an apartment building that for a while was held together with duct tape — the underwater lights in the pool, the carpet in front of the elevator for example. When I said something to the manager she flipped up her skirt hem to show me it was duct taped. Sigh
