It’s almost like Luann is channeling Shannon here.

As a standalone strip, I think this the most irritating GnK have published.

And he doesn’t know about the hidden camera.

So, either Luann is trying to relieve herself of the responsibility of something she did do, or, she knows somebody is going to be blamed for something she knows they didn’t do, and wants to show the proof of such. I’m strongly leaning toward the former.

Luann comes up with an elaborate argument for not cleaning her room: Year 30.

Since this is a disconnected Sunday strip, we will never find out what Luann did with Jimmy Hoffa’s body.

Once again, G&K continue to paint Luann as the least desirable character in this strip.

Pretty clever, Greg – if one looks at the color image on the back of Frank’s newspaper, it shows Frank in his chair with Luann speaking to him towards the right.

Either Luann had an accident with the car or … another matter.

Translation: “I did something I shouldn’t have and I want to be exonerated for any wrongdoing.”

Does Luann believe her father is Ward Cleaver who barks lectures at his kids, even when they are innocent of the wrongdoings he believes they are involved in??

Thank goodness Nancy isn’t June Cleaver, the ultimate “helicopter mom”!!

What is Luann trying to prove exactly?

Luann turns on the recorder and her dad answers, “The innocent should not be punished – the guilty should be. Everyone deserves a second chance – not chance 7,013 (Fool me once, shame on you. And things can be a hell of a lot worse than they appear on first glance – have you ever taken your car to the shop for what you thought was a minor problem and ended up paying $1,500?”

This gag would have been a better fit for 16 year old Luann. She’s in college student and presumably making more independent decisions despite living at home.

How does he even know where it’s going? She has me confused.

This looks more like the beginning of a new weekday arc than a Sunday strip.

Frank can just answer NO to any or all of Luann’s questions. That would stop whatever she is trying to do.

I’m sure someone has already commented on this but . . . the key word here is “wrongly” and sometimes things are as bad as they seem; sometimes, they are worse.

If it’s true that the words in the ’toon are mostly written by Karen now, GoComics should acknowledge that and not say that Luann is written by Greg Evans…

Luann’s panel-two speech way overshoots the one in panel one.

That everyone deserves a 2nd chance has always bugged me. I can name several “wrong doings” that I wouldn’t want to give a 2nd chance to.

Guess what, Luann? You’re a grown woman (at least, technically). So, pack your bag and get outta this house, right now, no delays, no evasions, no semantic traps! Live like a grown-up, or die. It’s your choice! But no more sheltered dependency; it’s not good for you in the long run….

No one should be wrongly blamed, but historically there have been many things that were found to have been worse than they seemed or can be reasonably understood by an empathetic human (most of our brains rebel at the thought of some of the things humans have done to each other) and many people did not deserve a second chance, like the people responsible for those atrocities.
