There are so many encouraging things Luann’s “best friend” could have said. “No comment” is not one of them.

I remember getting my tape recorder one christmas – can’t remember how old I was but would have been elevenish I think. I never recorded a diary on it though.

Seriously, Luann did have a big self-esteem problem when she reached puberty—just like so many young people today. Could be why they’re glued to their d@mned phones!!

That was the perfect way to sum up how you feel at 13. Horribly, exactly as I remember it. But Luann seems quite shocked that she was being so direct. When she told Fay about what she was like at 13, she seemed to remember all the awkwardness very well. I wonder what else is recorded in that MC and if Luann will get depressed or smile hearing it.

Poor Bernice. I’m sure she’s disappointed that she can’t think of a way to be a b right now. Maybe next time.

A blob….. and then that meteor hit…. Which transformed the planet… Overnight, everyone went from small, rough, blobby lumps to tall, good-looking, refined people..

About a year ago, I found an unlabeled cassette tape and popped it in. It turned out to be a recording of myself and three friends just sitting around chatting. I guess I must have been about 17. (I’m 57 now) It was the most surreal experience. It was like standing outside a window and eavesdropping on people I didn’t know. I didn’t get the inside jokes we shared. I cried because I was so happy that I caught this one casual moment in time. I heard my Mother. The barking of a dog I miss. My best friend then is still my best friend now, but we don’t live close anymore. The next time I go home I’ll listen to it again with her. It was amazing!

I remember Luann when she was 13 and she was not a blob. In a leotard, she did her impersonation of a fashion model. No. Definitely not a blob.

Well at least Luann has improved as a person since age 13, which is a lot more than can be said about Bernice.

When the strip started Luann DID look like a blob.But nobody noticed because her brother was three times the blob she was.

Actually, Bernice’s “No comment” remark is sarcastic, since Luann had just said “Everything used to be so awkward and clunky!” Bernice is implying that Luann’s tape reveals that she was in fact one of those awkward and clunky things.

Luann: That cassette tape should have been intentionally left blank!

Nothing improves the mind more than listening to a 13-year-old’s tape-recorded diary monologues….

Ah, yes, the blob stage. So difficult. Even worse when you get stuck there.
