May the widow(er)s and orphans who lost their spouses and parents continue to be at peace from that ordeal 21 years ago.

(Perhaps Luann should talk about something different with her father.)

I don;t have trouble talking with my daughter. We talk about things we share an interest in, like comics, TV shows and movies. Got me to thinking that we haven’t seen Luann go out in a long while. Who would she ask if she were going to see a play that Fay was in? She wouldn’t ask Bernice because The Bernster has gotten too snarky if not down critical to go anywhere with. Gunther wouldn’t do anything without Bets. Jack would complaint about sitting still in a chair for two hours. TJ is not right. That leaves Ox in Luann’s constrained circle of friends. Always polite, thoughtful and probably full of surprises, maybe he reads Don Quixote in the original Spanish. Not the worst friend to have in the world. I’m ready to ship them right now.

This makes me wonder how the rolling timeline had adjusted for Brad. Originally he was a layabout who was inspired by live footage of 9/11 to become a firefighter. But now thanks to the passage of time, he was no older than a toddler when it happened. So what’s the new story?

In Syria over the last decade they’ve suffered the equivalent of a 9/11 every month…

And I can’t help remembering how many Americans were celebrating the levelling of Baghdad back in 1991. (What goes around…)

Wasn’t it the horrible 9/11 tragedy that motivated Brad to become a firefighter? Pity he wasn’t part of this discussion.

Frank is usually shown as a funny man, but he’s actually full of worries. Luann is already prone to worry too much and doesn’t like hearing about earth’s problems. But then, she has ecological posters in her room about how to save the earth for years and she participates in environmental events. It would be great to see Frank and Luann go to an environmental event together♡.

Luann and Frank really don’t have anything to mutually discuss. Luann’s attempt and Frank’s response were awkward. Perhaps if Luann asked about activities and business at the Fuse, then could have been a more parochial talk.

Getting back to the actual comic, I’m disappointed to see Luann portrayed at her age as a woman who can’t hold up her end of a conversation about the current social ills in this country alone, never mind the world. Never mind climate, though that’s sort of strange, too…Yes..it’s not tee-hee funny, but Greg and Karen opened the door with Franks observation. She wants to be a teacher and has zero to say about the violence inflicted on school children? Nuttin’ honey?

Serious question, does anybody think any of the fictional characters of Luann could survive a economic crisis with their skill set? There are no farmers, mechanics, trades-men (or women), medical personnel, or working people in the lot. They are in the food service industry, psychology (counseling), or something marginal.

Don’t feed trolls by commenting under their opening remark. All it does is push their idiocy up to the top. Instead, make your own comment, in this case climate change, so that any responses will push your statement to the top. Also, someone said we should be observing 9/11 True, but putting that under the climate change troll simply buried it.

To me, hate is the most serious of these issues. It is dividing our country in a very pivotal way. This should be a nation United by instead we grow further and further apart each day because everyone wants to have his way——to tell his or her truth instead of THE TRUTH. And I’m also very concerned about all the drugs that are pouring into our country—-fatal drugs like Fentanyl. None of our politicians seem very concerned about drugs these days.

We faced climate change then, too. We should have started responding to the threat in the early 1990s, if not earlier.

We faced hate then, too. Was it out of hate Al-Qaeda attacked us? We had hate among ourselves then, too. But, since, it seems to have grown. Did it actually grow? Or is it that more people are less willing to conceal their hate?

We had violence then, too. Were the September 11 attacks violence? Before and since, Where riots? Assassinations?

Which is exactly why I believe Tony Heller, who can, and does quote articles from once respected, and then credible, sources from 90, or more years ago showing the same concerns (without the panic) about the flooding, heat, cold, rains, that NOW, according to the MEDIA, are the ‘result’ of man-made gloBULL warming.

Oregon, known for our wet, damp, cool weather, is currently on fire. Again. Our famous healthy air is now in the hazardous zone, all due to the ongoing climate fires. Oregonians are used to spending the summer outside, enjoying the fresh air and having fun doing all kinds of outdoor activities. But thanks to climate change, our lifestyles have changed. In a state where few people had or needed air conditioning in their homes, AC is now a must. People are now dying from the heat in Portland, even more than in Phoenix, where one would expect deaths from heat. Last year we had three consecutive days of 114-to 116-degree heat. Our heat wave was hotter than Phoenix’s heat wave. Not that many years ago, I drove around and took pictures of the local flooding and mudslides from the rain. Now we have to worry about ongoing droughts and our water supplies drying up. Instead of the usual walkers, joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, and kids playing, our neighborhood streets are now eerily quiet, as we have to stay inside with our air cleaners and air conditioners in vain attempts to stay cool and safely breath. The sky is currently a hazy, gloomy, apocalyptic orange. It’s still unusually hot out, but the smoke from the climate fires is keeping the temps just under 90. For the record, it used to be rare to hit 85. Now 90-104 is “normal”. My electric bills are now bigger in the summer than the winter. Normally, our garden season is short from too much rain and not enough sun. Now our garden veggies and ornamental plants BURN from the searing heat. Oregon is the Home of the Ducks, where we all proudly display and joke about our “webbed feet” from the rain and dampness. Another scorching year like this and we’ll have to change it to the Home of the Scorpions. So don’t tell me climate change isn’t real- it’s happening right outside my window. :(

To everyone here: Greg Evans posted what he did because that’s the reality we’re living in now. Comic strips, like other writing genres, delve into the real world from time to time; it’s unavoidable. If you don’t want to read a comic strip that talks about these issues, then go watch something inoffensive like The Waltons or one of those 50s sitcoms that never mentioned anything bad. But you can’t complain when the arts inevitably talk about the real world.

While all these C02 naysayers/defenders on climate change don’t include cows’ methane discharges with more and more cattle being bred to satisfy the need to eat beef and have milk. I wonder if that also is a small part of the reason for climate change?

Ivlax – I don’t know about you, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we had temperatures reaching 112°F. Normally, our temps are around the 70s or 80s when very hot. I would call that a climate emergency. When you are not used to that kind of high temps, you are not prepared for it, you can get sick, or even die from the intense heat.
