I was raised in a progressive Republican household where I was told of TR’s lament that “In God, we trust” on money was sacrilege, and that “under God” was wrong when added to the pledge of allegiance as it nullified “indivisible”.

It is sad that the people were not given the chance to vote on such a matter as in so many states the legislators vote as they wish or have been paid to do be darned, the editors said that in free speech America I could not use that naughty word, geesh America is losing freedoms and here we are worrying about naughty words, what are we 5? Oh well.

Because I have always lived near Chicago, the pinnacle of culture would be the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. To the East of Illinois, Indiana contained our country cousins whose pinnacle of culture was watching loud cars go around in a circle at the Indianapolis 500.

As regards the recent vote on abortion, it may be worth noting that a few GOP members of the legislature opposed this bill. In addition, some money was included to address “family” issues such as adoption, prenatal care, and other support services. However, given Indiana’s poor record for these things in the past, high mortality rates for mothers and infants, these provisions, although better than nothing, are yet too little, too late. Lilly and Cummins have both pushed back against the bill, and other entities may choose to respond, as well. I expect that their may be legal challenges coming. The rational for the bill was about 99.44% religious based emotion. But this is no surprise. I have yet to see a cogent “pro-life” argument based on empirical science and jurisprudence instead of “christian” hand wringing. Holding an anti-abortion position is not the same thing as holding a pro-life position, which the Indiana legislature, with this harbinger of similar future laws in other states, has proved in spades.)
