Woodstock angrily holding a bat may be one of my faviorite images i’ve seen in a peanuts strip. And there are many like Snoopy’s Awkward Teenage Nephew, Vulture Snoopy, or Sackhead Charlie Brown, but this one has just joined them.
I can’t help thinking that Lucy really isn’t as unqualifiedly horrible as so many people on GoComics think she is. There are more strips of her behaving in a perfectly decent manner than there are of her being nasty, that’s for sure. As today’s strip shows, Lucy and Charlie Brown’s relationship is ultimately one of good friendship. Certainly, you can’t compare Lucy to truly evil cartoon characters such as Jerry Mouse or Chip ‘n’ Dale ;-)
Many people and cultures use birds such as Guineafowls, ducks & geese, and peacocks as guard animals. Anybody approaching a house, day or night, will set off a loud and terrible racket by those birds.
And now the Yellow Canaries step up to bat, and ladies and gentlemen by the looks of it they mean business! (I know there are Cardinals and Jays and Oriole baseball teams, but is there a team named the Yellow Canaries?)
Woodstock will probably make a very capable watch bird. With the occasional upside down flight he would be the perfect drone for keeping an eye on Charlie’s abode. Though Charles will need to get used to the chirping alarm, not the yelping of Snoopy.
