I LOVE THIS. My love of this is over the top. It struck a nostalgic sentimental chord deep within me. Or something.

I can understand Amelia’s frustration. The place I’m at had two snowflakes in one year, and now there are 3-meter-tall monuments at both locations and tourists from as far as China coming to take selfies-with them.

I lived in a town so small, that a traffic jam was having to stop at a stop sign because there was a car passing by.

That is what small towns do. Anything to attract attention. Think, Lake Woebegon, Minnesota, and their “Toast & Jelly Days.”

Wife and I drove to a small coastal town one Saturday and got stuck in town during a parade. Seems if July 4th falls during the week, they have their parade on the following Saturday. This strip captures the feeling perfectly!

In our town we get ducks nesting in the shrubbery outside McD’s. Everybody leaves them alone, even as they cross the road to the river and back once a day!

Ha! My town has 5 sets of stoplights! It was 4 for a long time, but people complained about getting in and out of Wal-Mart, so if you need to make a left out of their lot… now you can.

The world would be a better (and happier) place if more people celebrated the small things and found more beauty in the every day…. so… good job, Snug Harbor.

The sparrows must have know the light was there when they picked the spot. Seems cruel for the town to remove that feature.

A town didn’t have a tornado siren for years because birds built a nest in it. They now test it every day at noon.

Snug Harbor is the comics version of Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls which, was inspired by New England towns. Per Google: Though fictitious, Stars Hollow was inspired by quaint, quirky hamlets across New England. Show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has revealed that the town Washington Depot, CT, first inspired Stars Hollow for her.

I once bought 4 mosquito “curtains” that attached with velcro for the covered portion of my deck (and used binder clips and magnets at the openings) but has 2 large panels that are around a foot too long so it made a “loop” in the corners. A little brown bird, either a nuthatch, chickadee or a wren would use the one corner loop to sleep in without any nesting materials.

I think Amelia did win the lottery living in a place like Snug Harbor, and having friends like Wallace, Spud, and Rose, but she probably won’t realize this until she’s much older, and living in the big city …

Many years ago, an entire stretch of newly constructed freeway was shut down because a family of foxes was denning in the center berm. It went on for at least a year.

There’s always some guy with merch! Can’t we just enjoy some nature without some schmuck marketing it?

You know, in Vermont they don’t allow roadside ads. It’s a brilliant idea.
