My brother produced the dime in a few days, and after my mom washed it off, we saw that it had turned blue. The chemicals in Al’s stomach had coloured the dime blue! He was so excited about this that as soon as he could find another dime…he swallowed it!
Lynn Johnston was not known for originality. Recycling plot lines was common. Maybe this time it will not “come out in the end”. Rather, it could be like this…
April’s stomach rumbles loudly. Everyone gathers around
April: BARRRRFFF!
Vomit lands on Elizabeth
Gordie LaChance{as narrator}: “Everybody got sick and vomited. Elly vomited on John. The Enjos vomited on Brian. Lawrence vomited on his gay lover. An old lady vomited in her purse. Rolne vomited on Lhetta. This was not seen since the likes of that pie eating contest in Castle Rock.”
In all fairness, the more times something is “passed,” the more valuable it becomes! Certain coffees are made with EXCLUSIVELY passed beans. I forgot which animal eats them though.:/
She didn’t swallow it again (yet). She just put it back in her mouth. From the look on Elly’s face, it will be mere seconds before either she or Liz dig it out of April’s mouth with a finger.
I think this whole arc is really funny, and that Lynn imagined the drawings and found the words to convey that story in such a humorous and hilarious way….

Why’d you hand it back to her? You’re not usually so dumb, Liz.

Apparently John the medical dentist in panel one wasn’t too worried when there is much worse news to worry about in the paper.

I love how they gloss over how it was “produced”. Ick. Pt-tooey. And they had to sort through it!

Where’s Farley when you need him? Unlike Elly, I’m sure he would’ve been smart enough to keep Liz from giving the button back to April.
