My mom had dementia. I drove 60 miles to come get her and she was standing outside only wearing a shirt! I asked her what happened to her pants and she looked down and said, “I THINK I had them on when I went to the store!” (It took us a year to take her to court to get a court ordered evaluation, they ordered her in 24/7 lockdown, stage 3, soon to be 4.) She wouldn’t cooperate or go to the doctor! Bless her heart, finally got her in a dementia care center, she got good care there with our advocacy.
As a kid, it did seem to take forever for the radio to warm up before before you could listen to the day’s installment of The Lone Ranger. Along with the large backlit dial, the soft warm glow on the wall behind the radio made it more dramatic in dimly lit room. You even stopped reading the daily newspaper on the floor to free your imagination.
He’s just forgetful. If he were deeply into dementia, he would not understand the problem even when pointed out to him. Clyde is usually the sharper one, and Earl isn’t. We have role reversal this week.
It’s a storage issue. I’m sure that what I ate for breakfast two hours ago is stored somewhere in my brain, but it is probably in the folder stuffed behind the one that contains all of the words to “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”, so it isn’t worth the effort required to find that information.

Gotta be cool about it. If he jogged home, who would notice they’re not running shorts?

Usually it’s Earl that gets exposed.

As in panel 3, the gas station attendant would do all those things and check the water level in the radiator, then add some, if needed.

Remember when, if you wanted to find out something, you had to get a book or even go to the library, instead of just doing a web search?
