We had a Native American at our Sunday church service, describing the problems in Canada’s Residential Schools; and he never used the terms Native American or First People or indigenous. They were still Indians.

George Carlin had a famous routine “Seven Words You Can’t Say on Television”. Actually there were/are > 700 words you can’t say on TV. There were likely 7+ terms for urination you couldn’t say, dozens of terms for male/female anatomy you couldn’t say-even when the same words were fine if used to describe a rooster or the name Richard. So where do you draw the line not to offend? Is a woke to object to the use of the N words for Afro Americans, F word for gays, C word for women?

The Woke can call anything or anybody what ever they like. But, they can’t change what it or they are. William Shakespeare said it best, I quote “What’s in a name, a rose by any other name will still smell the same.”

um maybe Rat should be cancelled. I believe the accepted term now is indigenous peoples.

Many Native Americans prefer “Indians.” The ones who REALLY don’t like calling Native Americans “Indians” are people from India, who have to identify themselves as “an Indian. FROM INDIA.”

Many aboriginal people use the English word “Indian” because it is just a foreign word of no consequence. Some object to Native American because of the American part. I suppose Pre-Columbian works as it avoids the discussion of multiple waves of migration, but no one likes Columbus any more.Indigenous covers a lot of territory. Redskin is right out.

Keep erasing history regardless of the cost or impact. They erased Aunt Jemimiah and now her family won’t get any of the payments for the use of her image that they used to get. She enjoyed her work, traveling and meeting people. But that’s ok, erase history, that way you won’t be ale to learn from it.

I hope that someone decides to erase Rat and bring back Pig and Goat.

To all claiming that the Cleveland Indians were named after Louis Sockalexis: That’s a big, fat LIE!

The team Sockalexis played for was the Cleveland Spiders, a team eliminated by the National League in 1900 after posting a 20–134 in 1899. The Cleveland Indians were established by the American League in 1901. Their original name was the Blues, then Bronchos, then they were called the Naps after their manager Nap Lajoie. The team looked for a new nickname after Lajoie left the team. They chose Indians but did not give a reason for the new nickname.

Nobody named a team after a player that played for a grand total of 94 games over 3 seasons, last of which he batted .224.

Here was the announcement of the name change on January 16, 1915. No mention of Louis Sockalexis.

Cleveland Nine Indians Now.

CLEVELAND, O., Jan. 16.-The Cleveland American League baseball team will hereafter be known as the " Indians," it was decided this afternoon at a meeting of club offictals and baseball writers. The name “Naps" became obsolete when Napoleon Lajolie went to the Philadelphia Americans.It was also decided at the meeting to agree on " Spiders " as a name for the Cleveland’ American Assoclation team.
