The reason why you never saw the cat next door in Peanuts was that Charles Schulz just could not draw cats. He tried, and one of the girls briefly had a cat that was seen in the strip, but according to Schulz it just didn’t look “right”.
When Schultz died many comics did commemorations that day-like Hagar the Horrible’s tunic looked like Charlie Brown’s shirt. on that day we learn that Garfield was the ’cat next door" all along as he mourned next to the empty dog house.
In the title panel it looks like Garfield’s attempt at sending a nude. Only reason I point that out is because that it would look like one of my attempts.
Ummmm, “Peanuts” went out of print twenty-three years ago. Garfield should be calling some other cartoon character to discuss transferring to another strip. Get with the times, Jim Davis!
I feel for you, Garfield. There are times it makes you wonder where you have to go to enjoy a starry night of peace and quiet without some idiots making a racket other than asking the idiots making the racket if they would like it if you did the same when they want some peace and quiet.

Peanuts already has ‘the cat next door’, who is Snoopy’s antagonist. So I don’t think he’d want another one.

Snoopy could use an “ally cat” to scare “the cat next door” off. But Garfield won’t “fit” the job description.

Well, Garfield, If I got bit by a 6" bug I’d do some gahhing, too. In fact, if you got bit by anything you’d pass out.

But the Peanuts/Snoopy comic strips once had a cat in the cast named Faron!

I was always under the assumption that Garfield was, in fact, the giant cat that lived next door to Snoopy.
