Lot’s daughters get him drunk and take turns getting pregnant from him. (Genesis 19:30-38)

Onan to service his dead brother’s wife, “goes unto her” but spills seed on the ground (sounds like early withdrawal or “premature evacuation”) Genesis 38:8-9

Command to commit rape — Numbers 31

Song of Solomon — entire book

    Ezekiel 23:17-20

[Had to rework this post because I was unable to post the actual King James Version of the text from this passage because the GoComics automated (bot) censors agreed that the most popular version of the Bible is too obscene for a comics page, much less school classrooms]

Thank you Go Comics, for proving my point!

GoComics censors agree that the Bible is obscene. Florida parents should file complaints. If one single parent can dictate that the inaugural poem by Amanda Gorman is obscene, when there is nothing remotely similar to the allegation made, then the Bible, which contains passages a COMICS PAGE would not allow, must also be banned.

For more Bible perversions, direct internal contradictions and commands to commit atrocities directly from god, all with exact Bible references that the cult worshippers can look up in their very own Bibles:

Religion is only useful tool to teach morals to children like alphabet but after that it basically useless

But honestly there are better ways to teach same morals without religion like storybooks

I like when Lot, presumably with God’s full approval, offers his daughters to a raging mob of rapists to divert them from attacking some suspected angels—men, of course. Good lesson.

If more people read the Bible, they would know…

Then there’s some who are radically interpreting to their own agendas….

“I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.” (Susan B. Anthony)

Frankly, more progressive parents should go through school libraries and object to anything THEY find offensive. Same with text books. Start with DeSantis’ perverted history books. Or pretty much any text books in Texas.

Must be Missouri where the legislators voted to defund and close all public libraries in the state. They said books give people ideas and ideas are dangerous!

The King James version was put together by a witch hunting English king who wanted to remove any shreds of what he considered Catholicism from the Bible which would end up being used by the Church of England. It was not meant to support God, but to support English law and English royalty.

To make a point, some “parent” or concerned citizen SHOULD nominate the bible for the banned book list, with a long list of sins and references.

Sure you can. Those are the same christians who brought their very young children to see “The Passion of the Christ” movie. The movie that depicted for over an hour the most graphic and horrifying depravity, torture, and murder that never should have been made, let alone subjected to children.

Is it willful ignorance, abject stupidity, or simple hypocrisy that drives the right-wing populists to the ironical (the combination of irony and comical; I have coined this phrase and submitted to Oxford for assimilation) places in which we all find them?:

Truth. One of the scariest books out there. A bunch of hooey, too. A field guide for abusing women and children along with torturing animals. Who wouldn’t want to follow that?!

If you want to be an educated person (in the Western world) you must have a reasonably good knowledge of the Bible. You don’t have to believe it, but you have to know it. I was not raised as a believer, and I’ve never been a believer, but my parents knew the Bible well, and they encouraged me to read it and to read about it. The Bible itself is quite fascinating, and the history of the Bible, both Testaments, is also fascinating.

I wonder if other versions of the Bible (Vulgate, RSV, Jerusalem Bible, New American Bible, etc.) use less colorful wording. Likewise with Orthodox versions and those translated into other languages. Also, some Protestant versions omit several books which are included in Catholic version (Maccabees, Ecclesiasticus, etc.). The KJV is often criticized for its stylistic bulk and reputed translation errors.

I’m amazed when so many Christians read the Bible anyway. After all, Jesus’ book is the New Testament. Which is still full of brainwashing techniques, misogyny, and such, but it also has all the good Jesus stuff about helping those less fortunate, that the rich aren’t likely to go to heaven and such.

I read this letter to the editor this AM, and feel it needs a larger circulation:

    “Two recent headlines:

Hundreds of Catholic clergy in Illinois sexually abused thousands of children, AG finds – PBS News Hour 23 May

Clergy still not required to report abuse – Kitsap Sun 25 May

In the story that dealt with Washington state and the failure to pass a new law on mandatory reporting, Sen. Noel Frames’ (D-Seattle) compromise did not require “reporting what was heard in the confessional but rather reporting a belief of harm likely to happen.” The executive director of the state lobbying arm of the Catholic Church told Sen. Frame the compromise was “something we could not accept.”

If you are a church with a direct line to God, why do you need a “lobbyist?”

No religion has the right to dictate US civil law. They have the right to advise and discuss when it impacts them.

We the people of any, and no religion have the obligation to protect the most vulnerable, our children, from harm regardless of the source."

Even if it comes from a perfumed pervert in a Roman collar.

It is not just Florida. Article in Richmond Times-Dispatch 05/30 on Hanover County, Virginia, book banning (school board claims it is just “cleaning things up a little bit.”). This is the same county that supports the KKK and allows it to appear in parades, i.e., Freedom of Speech. I am not making this up.

INSTEAD OF READING THE BIBLE….James Michener’s THE SOURCE ; In his signature style of grand storytelling, James Michener sweeps us back through time to the Holy Land, thousands of years ago. By exploring the lives and discoveries of modern archaeologists excavating the site of Tell Makor, Michener vividly re-creates life in and around an ancient city during critical periods of its existence, and traces the profound history of the Jews, including that of the early Hebrews and their persecution, the impact of Christianity on the Jewish world, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition. Michener weaves his epic tale of love, strength, and faith until at last he arrives at the founding of Israel and the modern conflict in the Middle East. The Source is not only a compelling history of the Holy Land and its people but a richly written saga that encompasses the development of Western civilization and the great religious and cultural ideas that have shaped our world.
