“What’s the worst thing that can happen?” is a question sure to test the limits of your imagination. (As the US worked on the atomic bomb they weren’t sure what might happen – if it even worked – but one scenario was that once started the bomb would keep expanding in power and destroy the world in a ball of atomic fire. They decided to test it anyway. Hey, at least Japan and Germany would have also gone up in flames.)
I think that Asimov’s three laws of robotics should be applied to any usage of AI – robot, computer, cell phone etc. (The first law regards causing no harm to a human being.)
Forgot about how, in the mid 1980s, robots were “going to take over everybody’s job” when they were installed in factories… although the only jobs they took were precision and / or repetitive jobs that freed workers to do more skilled jobs…
When the computer revolution started in the ’80s, people said it would cut down on labor and people could work fewer hours. It did cut down on the hours, but they just laid off people and kept the money.

Take that logic backwards far enough, and electric lights might seem like a bad idea.

Do you think private enterprise really thinks about the negative implications of new technology or are they counting on them to make money?

Now they’re making the same claim about AI.
