Those old Scots worked hard and they played… strange games.

Well, I wouldn’t let his goats and sheep near his putting green. At least his stroll down to the neolithic hole won’t “spoil a good walk.”

Neighbor’s front lawn has a short approach lane and a small putting green with golf flag marking cup. Very cool.

Golf was one of the biggest time wasters until the invention of the internet.

    Nothing has come close since.

Soon after, the ‘pay a lot to play a little’ exclusive club would relegate the villagers to their humble Corn Hole pastime. Almost immediately the strange costumes appeared.

A couple of my grandsons have gone to our county golf camps and I applaud the pros there for coaching kids on appropriate behavior/etiquette and attire. It’s one of the sports that can be played throughout a lifetime.

Okay, I know this is sort of my own non sequitur, but with many games just being practice for battle, I wonder why we never really saw golf combat techniques. Golf Kung Fu, if you will. Maybe Golf Launchers in the Gulf?

a relevant poem from 1917 (so off copyright)

The golf links lie so near the mill

    That almost every day

The laboring children can look out

And see the men at play

Very few golf strokes are strokes of genius. Although I do take comfort in knowing that in every round of golf I always have 18 perfect strokes.

Most if not all sports are about as lame. Is there really any difference to basketball ? Throw a ball in a hoop, run to the other end and do it again, over and over. Golf at least has a change of location for the hole.

This is very much how it went, except that the person with the leisure time to invent lawns and golf is an extremely wealthy nobleman. Part of the 1%.

Kings once banned golf as a distraction from essential activities like archery practice with “Assault Longbows” capable of delivering many projectiles at long range in a short span of time.

It’s funny because it’s so ridiculous — oh, that’s circular — because it’s so far from reality. Before “Christendom” began to get back to its roots and become more like its Founder intended, throughout history around the world, only the most rich and powerful had much if any chance to learn, enjoy much leisure time, invent things, do much that wasn’t directly related to mere survival, or have much if any hope for a happy afterlife.

When you have bread, cloths and a shelter, you can waste your time playing golf, alright. The rest have to toil for these basic needs.
