That’s pretty reckless, Red. Back then ( in the 1960s), a penny could actually buy you bubble gum.

Yesterday in line for an outside burger place window in Bellevue, Washington, someone dropped a Canadian loony. I thought at first it could be a Sacajawea dollar, but a loony makes more sense, even in another country. (SOME country’s dollar coins didn’t catch on. I won’t name names.)

I thought today’s strip was familar. I looked at its date and I see it is a reprint from 2020.

But wouldn’t the penny cancel out the crack? I think Red should have kept it!

When I was a little kid my older sister told me the myth about cracks and it made me paranoid for years.

Stupid, lying penny….

Back in the day when we believed that if you dropped a penny from the roof of a tall building it would pick up enough speed to kill someone.

I still pick up pennies. They are mostly zinc these days and that’s can really mess up a critter’s stomach.

Why do we still have pennies? They are a meaningless denomination of money.

A bad penny brings bad luck

since my daughter and I played that game together we decided on a different story. We pretended that if someone stepped on a crack the earth would open up and take you down to live in the kingdom of worms.

Nice warning Rover ……. but you should have told Red sooner …………. then he could have skipped the crack … and kept the penny …….. Oh well ….. easy come, easy go ….. :)

That reminds me of a little poem I wrote when I was about 8: “See a penny/Pick it up/ And all the day long your back’ll act up.” It was going to be part of a collection called “Nursery Rhymes for Old People”.
