He didn’t last long, but on the old TV show “Sliders” there was supposed to be a recurring character the heroes would encounter in every universe. In our world he was a stuck up, opinionated college student. Every time they saw him, he had different opinions, but the same attitude.

Rat’s first revision of that sentence: He/She/They/It was somewhere on the spectrum of distance from the floor to the top of his/her/their/its head.

Sadly, this is not an exaggeration. At the community college where I taught an on-line geology course, I was censured by a sensitivity committee for my description of how oxygen breaks down the molecular structure of some minerals. The offending passage was, “Like a wavy-haired bully, the oxygen atom sweeps in and lures away the …” I was told this would be offensive to all wavy-haired students.

Spreading misinformation, falsehoods, and slander and making violent threats is not free speech.
