It’s Google calling to tell you that your email address is being used to send viruses to the Internet and the FBI will come and arrest you unless you send $500 in Target gift card numbers to this address ASAP.
Wouldn’t the radio listener have to be the 100th caller to WKRP?
Because if the radio station makes calls at random how would they be sure they aren’t calling a stranger who doesn’t even listen to the station? How would they make money then holding the contest?
Now I am talking about your fifty thousand watt intensive care unit, babies! So just sit right down, relax, open your ears real wide and say, “Give it to me straight, Doctor, I can take it!”
I often get calls from numbers I don’t recognize. I usually answer them as many prove to be important calls. Who knows? It might be PCH asking for directions or checking to see if I’m awake. If it’s a bad call, I can always block the number.
I don’t blame Brutus for not answering, even if Caller ID had shown up as the radio station. A few months back, I was in a store talking to a friend when his cell phone rang. He looked at it and said “What the F…?” He showed it to me as it rang again , it was his name and number on the Caller ID, I guess it had been spoofed in some way or other. He didn’t answer it obviously.
I answered a random number once… someone tried to give me a camera and sign a contract or something, he was very rude too. I bet you can imaging what I did when he asked for my name. :J
I recently received a call that my phone identified as “Potential Spam”. It turned out to be from AHCCCS about my healthcare for the coming year. Fortunately they did leave a voice-mail.
Those things can happen but he’s better off not answering what might be robocalls and not being in the habit of having to answer any call that comes in. Though an additional one thousand dollars would have been nice….
These days, if you get a phone call claiming you’ve won $1000, it is almost certainly a scam. And then there are the gazillion calls you’d have to answer to get that one. Even with caller ID they can spoof legit numbers and trick you into answering. Scammers have ruined the usefulness of the phone system.
actually wild turkeys can fly. the ability has been bred out of domestic turkeys. I had one come out of a tree in front of my van, scared the crap out of me (not literally thankfully). The one that flew into the side of my wife’s van literally scared the crap out of itself, besides the dent it left there was turkey poop all the way down the side of the van.
Radio stations don’t just call random numbers anymore. Mostly it it you call them now. So he made the right decision for this day and age, even if Art and Chip weren’t aware.

I think that DJ might be spending the whole day dialing people, as most won’t answer a call from an unknown number. I sure won’t.

With all the spam calls I get, it’d have to be more like $10K to makeup for the amount of time wasted on answering spam calls.

The majority of my calls lately have been Medicare scam calls. If I answer, they normally hang up when I ask them if anyone in India has a real job.
