Pig is setting limits, there is a lot of wisdom there!

I don’t worry about things I can’t change anyway. There are too many sources of gloom and doom out there.

In my country, many people are angry at AI, because they replaced sportscasters, a REAL human sportscaster. I kind of feel bad for that person who lost their job, but hey, let us look on the bright side.

AI, like a lot of technology, is released on the world with little thought to the unintended consequences. For every technological step, there needs to be thorough ethical as well as technical review — and until we as a society (probably represented by a government agency) are satisfied that it has little potential for harm, it should not be released.

I’ll worry about it if it happens.

Meh….not worried about AI. It’s proven to be dumber than that average Alabaman Hillbilly. This has been a fear thing since the invention of the computer and look where we are now. I’m not scared about artificial intelligence; I’m scared of human intelligence, and the lack thereof.

AI is ok but unfortunately it’s being abused and used in scams.

Artificial Intelligence is like the Internet. The Internet has the potential to do a lot of good, for example, by being a source of factual and reliable information on pretty much any subject you care to choose (yes, there really are reliable sites), but it also can be used to do great damage, for example by using it to plan terrorist attacks. Likewise, AI isn’t either good or bad in and of itself. It all depends on how it’s used, and I’m pretty sure it will be used both for good and for bad purposes.

AI danger? Pfft! That’s just nothing but sci-fi nonsense and fearmongering!

Technology is thoroughly amoral, and is only as good or as bad as the people who use it. And there are some very bad people.

It’s the most wonderful time in history in many ways, and yet anxiety and related problems keep going up because we keep imagining new threats, some of which may never happen or will take millennia. And I suspect with all that, we’re missing what we most need to rectify.

Very true. I have cut down on my news viewing listening.

AI stories are everywhere. They’ve even got AI detectors on certain websites.

The evil is not in the machine. It’s in the machine’s creator. We build nuclear, chemical and biological weapons to keep us “safe.” How do you expect our “children” to think?

AI is a loooooong way from Skynet and there are applications in health, agriculture, climate and replacing ego-nomics that could actually save our sorry a$$es from ourselves. Sadly, we’ll use it for political deepfakes and cheating on schoolwork.

Hey, Pig, I totally get it.

Seeing that the very people who publicly made the case that AI is dangerous are the very ones promoting their brand of AI systems, I’d say the argument that it’s dangerous is weak at best and the rest is just media making a narrative for people to consume (and look at the ads).

There’s always the power source. Make sure you have access and control at all times.
