My grandkids’ great grandfather was a member of the generation Gorrell is lauding. One is in University still, one is living home while working part-time and getting through community college part time. The others are gainfully employed enough to afford how they live… and they have only education or home-buyer debt. One has a child who he’s fully supporting. They think it’s fine for people to use whatever pronouns make them comfortable without making an issue of it. Because they are good people who don’t want to shove something down someone’s throat. (Yeah, I chose that metaphor deliberately) Not a one of them expects government handouts. They all pay their taxes (and then often get their refunds).

Gorrell is painting a picture of a situation that doesn’t actually exist. What a SURPRISE! (not)

Is this a self portrait of Mr. Gorrell? But he wouldn’t support Hamas, would he?

Repubs and conserves like Bore-all think that the people of the “greatest generation” were straight, hard working, and god fearing. If they weren’t they preferred them to be in the closet.

What a sad commentary on Bob Gorrell. How awful that that he’s so critical of the new generations for not swallowing the propaganda that Gorrell did. I’m proud of this generation for questioning the “accepted” notions of the past. I’m proud that they are critical thinkers.

Maybe they can undo the damage done by “the greatest generation.”

I doubt the generation that in multi-decade of wars should be the greatest

More like they were the generation of the greatest violent era

It is interesting that older people believe that older generations are superior to the younger generations. To think that way you have to ignore the obvious flaws of the older generations. For example, members of the greatest generation were for the most part perfectly ok with racial segregation. Add that thought to the mix and the greatest generation is quite similar to younger generations. They did some great things but had their flaws.

It is not the left that’s fixated on gender; we just accept it and I’m pretty sure most of the pro-Palestinian protestors were pro-Palestinian not pro-Hamas. Of course Bob doesn’t understand the difference there.

If we are to emulate the greatest generation, we will stand up to fascists who dehumanize their political opponents, give degrading nicknames to those who call them to account, attack the judicial system when they are caught breaking the law and desire to shut down press that criticizes them.

Protesting the wanton destruction of a city (and it’s people).. hardly makes one a degenerationist. More of an expression of a conscious, something missing from Netanyahu and his merry men.

Mr. Gorrell clearly does not understand kids these days. That’s probably because his (my) generation took all that our fathers and grandfathers did and flushed it down the toilet. Most GI’s came back to work in union shops, which our generation proceeded to destroy. Most Gi’s who went to school went on the GI Bill. They also bought housed on the GI bill. They lived in a country that believed that accumulating huge amounts of money was unAmerican and taxed excesses wealth. Their bosses were rich, but not so rich that their wealth dwarfed the wealth of the average worker.

Todays kids look around about their future. They see a world on the brink of catastrophe, because their parents didn’t want to do the hard work of fixing it. They see an older generation that won’t let go of power and won’t govern. Where our generation sees black and white, they see in colour.

They don’t care what your pronoun is, they go with it. Same with race and national identity. They are basically waiting for us to leave the scene so that they can clean up the mess we made.

There are millionaires and billionaires living in this country, who are citizens of this country, who pay little or no taxes, and accept handouts.

They also eviscerate other people, accusing them of wanting to do the same thing.

And your great grandfather (my father), fighting the perpetrators of The Holocaust, didn’t expect to come home to a country where white supremacists would parade chanting “Jews will not replace us” while being lauded as “fine people” by the President of the United States. No, they didn’t come home expecting “government handouts” unless, of course, the GI Bill, which fueled our economy in the lates 40’s through the mid 60’s by funding mortgages and education, was considered a “handout.” And while they proudly served their country with military members of all races, religious persuasions, and sexual orientations – often trusting their lives to those same individuals – they did return home and pick up where Jim Crow left off and added a few other races and biases to the mix. The greatest “Degeneration?” With Trump as the best and brightest banner carrier to be found in the republican party I am forced to agree.

Don’t forget, the greatest generation also produced beatniks and motorcycle gangs…

Time tends to filter out the bad, particularly in remembrance of our own.

My grandfather fought in WW2. And now the ideology that he fought against and that threatened the world is alive and well and supports the right wing politicians in the united states, especially trump. And they LOVE Trump. so what does that say about Trump and the right wing?

Gorrell, you are so wrong on this one! People are protesting against Israel because it kills palestinians. Palestinians are not HAMAS!!! They are people who have been subject to an ongoing expulsion and genocide for decades, perpetrated by Israel upon the palestinian people. What Israel does there is genocide!!!!

Bob, thank you. There is not much I can do to motivate young people to vote. But you and yours….well now there is a way to get them to turn out and vote against Rs that makes me hopeful again.

Please keep demonizing and alienating people who are the future of this country. Make them have a deep distrust and visceral negative reaction to your work. You are doing that on a larger scale then I could.
