In 60’s grade school, my mom was room mother for all my 6 years there. Had 3 room mothers to a class and odd was, almost the same ones volunteered each year.
See, that’s the trouble with being a good parent. You perform minor miracles every day balancing work, home life, school activities, extracurriculars, and all life’s other challenges…and the kids begin to normalize it as “just regular stuff my parents do” and therefore nothing special.
My mom was heavily involved with the PTA during my siblings and my school years and would volunteer us to help with certain events. One summer she brought boxes and boxes home of papers we had to put together and staple. All she asked was each one of us (and dad) do a set amount daily and any friends we invited over had to do the same. When school started and those stapled papers were passed out to the students, I gave it back to the teacher and explained my reason. The teacher believed me because he knew my mom and knew she would have put us to work on them.
And here I thought the loop on the milk jug was for your fingers! Don’t understand the grabbing of Hammie’s t-shirt unless she checking for belly button fuzz or presence of underwear.
The Build Team devised a “morning routine” test where volunteers were given five minutes to get out of bed, iron clothes, get dressed, and make breakfast and lunch while also answering three trivia questions over the phone and babysitting a robotic baby. Each test subject began with a base score of 100, with deductions for failed or incomplete tasks. Ten women achieved an average score of 72, while ten men averaged 64.
Wanda looks like me about 35 years ago. My husband and I were both self-employed. I worked for his business as well as my own, but I worked mostly from home. My kid never volunteered me for anything, however the school would call and say, “Since you’re home all day could you do this for us?” Usually it was baking cookies or cupcakes and once it was working on the school carnival. That was the worst.
Looks like the GoComics folks are curtailing our abilities in the comments by saying “URLs are not allowed in the comments” …… Bummer, I do that a lot! not to mention all the other people that have helped me in the past, and teaching me the Capital C in .com trick ….
Here’s a tip, Wanda. On the first day of school, send an email to her teacher, the principal, school counselor, etc. stating “If Zoe volunteers me for anything, be assured that it was not authorized and ignore her.”

If you were telling that to women, they didn’t believe you, Zoe.

Hopefully, Wanda will explain to them that she’s very busy with a toddler at home. If they’ve got kids, they should understand.

You don’t have to do those tasks all at once, mom. Calm down. You’re making your kids neurotic. Break the cycle.

In the 80s, my son always volunteer me as grade mother. I enjoyed it, even though I worked full time.

“Women are better at multitasking than men.”
Confirmed.

Poor Wanda looks absolutely hilarious. I particularly love her prehensile foot pouring Wren’s milk. Great drawing!

Certainly, Zoe. As long as you stay home from the carnival and do the housework.
