It’s how I feel when my side looses an election. We may lose a few of our candidates, but it is important to realize we are all Americans after the election and put the divisiveness behind us..

An unusual Calvin and Hobbes strip which focuses on Mom. Watterson noted in The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book, “As Mom is the daily disciplinarian, we don’t usually see her at her best.” This is one of the times when we do see her at her best.

Today would have been my Mum’s ninety-seventh birthday. She died on March 23 2011 exactly two months before the day which would have been her eighty-fourth birthday. My Dad would join her on March 19 2020 when he was aged ninety-one.

Yet there is still that nagging need for vengeance and to be assured that the threat is eliminated and will not return.

They switched sides.

And Dad is now back on the other side of the bed from yesterday, where he was on Tuesday’s strip. He’s really having a really rough night.

Are you “OK”?

You’re lying awake, at first fearful, the worried, and now trying to console yourself that it doesn’t matter. If “things” didn’t matter why did you lock your doors when you left?

None of your family were physically harmed, that’s good. What about your emotional health? Your sense of security?

Except if it’s your cell phone. Then nothing else seems to matter. I went over a week without being able to find mine. I was like Gollum trying to find the Precious after the cursed Baggins had stolen it!

Stuff can usually be replaced. People can’t.

At least they were luckier than Peppermint Patty. When burglars broke into her house, they took everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING!!

They switched sides again.

For Heaven’s Sake…. cut the chase and save the drama for your mama… let’s get back to Calvin and Hobbes. Stupendous Man. Spaceman Spliff. Snow Goons. Arch enemies, dupes and foils Suzy and Miss Wormwood. And those two should get a room. Dilly! Dilly!

Will add an amen to mom’s very sensible observation. Too easily forgotten.

How many times are they going to changes sides in their bed? My husband always had the side closest to the bathroom.

I’ve always been curious what spurned this arc for Bill. A friend? A neighbor? Family? I’d love to ask him, but that rabbit hole is the size of the Grand Canyon…

I would prefer to be home when someone broke in. Only me though, not my wife. I’m pretty sure whoever broke in would drastically underestimate the situation.

Yeah right…

Given both sides of US politics foment divisiveness, it really doesn’t matter.

What the mom says is all too true… and they switched sides of the bed again, but it looks like they finally fell asleep.

This is another of my favorite non-Calvin strips. It really is amazing how often we forget what’s important.

Home truths.

A government rules at the whim of its constituency. When the constituency requires more or less flexibility than the established governing body provides, said body meets its demise. Said demise can come in many ways.

A silver lining in this cloud.

Yes, it is not the things, but the sense of violation that really gets to one. Unless, of course, an item with sentimental value was stolen as well as one’s peace of mind.

Why do you suppose they switched sides of the bed during the night?

My widowed 88yr old mom was burgled by two young guys who climbed in a window while she was asleep in her bed. They came into the room, removed a dresser drawer and jewelry box, took cash, jewelry and Rx drugs. She only woke up when she heard the door close as they left the house. Amazingly they were caught in a traffic stop soon after. I was able to reclaim some of the jewelry including a 1945 engagement ring, but it robbed her of her sense of security in her few last years. I’m thankful that she wasn’t physically harmed, but I’m sill angry and it causes me anxiety to remember that day.

This is beautiful. We don’t need TVs or nice plates or stuff like that. We just need each other and a stuffed animal. And a dog. (I love dogs)
