My family was here before Ellis Island was built. I realize the importance of immigration. I live under the roof of an immigrant who is now a citizen.

My dad’s parents and a couple of his sisters were Volga Germans, born in Russia. I’ve traced his side of our family back to where they lived in southern Germany in the late 1700’s, when they emigrated to the Volga region.

I certainly hope he doesn’t get eaten by cannibals like Sock Puppet Joe’s Uncle Finnegan.

The native Americans arrived via the Bering land bridge, from Siberia to Alaska, about 15,000 years ago. (Some say 23,000).

The Siberian Husky was domesticated 30,000 – 40,000 years ago.

Logical conclusion: The Siberian Husky was the first Asian across the land bridge, by the length of a dog sled team.

Fortunately, some of my ancestors were already there, and let him join their tribe.

All mine came over on ships in the 19th Century. Being Irish Catholics they were greeted warmly. Until the “real” Americans found new ethnic groups to pick on. And my ancestors, having learned from the best, joined in the fun.
