Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as is “what it is”.

The whole art scene is a big scam. My wife and I both had a favorite teacher in HS who became a successful commercial artist. We have several of his paintings. I’ve seen them advertised for as much as $15000 each, but I’ve never seen any sale even remotely close to that. A friend of ours owned a gallery. He’d buy one of those paintings for $150 at an estate sale or a corporate bankruptcy (a lot of them ended up in co. lobbies), advertise it for $15,000 and eventually sell it for maybe $3000.

Lucky for Earl that it wasn’t a self portrait.

Opal’s shirt reminds me of the tie-dye t-shirts I used to wear in high school… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

I have learned to say “Mmm. Nice colors. Can you tell me what you were thinking about as you drew it?” That way I don’t call the cow a rhino.

A female rhinoceros is called a cow.

Well, to be fair, they both have 4 legs.

What is a rhinoceros if not just a horny cow? Or wait, maybe a cow is a horny cow…wait…

The last couple of days gives me a sense of ‘here we go again’. Seems like every couple of years, Opal goes through this same artistic crisis…

Aw, somobody ripped off one of it’s horns!

That’s Opal’s vision of “street art”. It belongs in a garbage can next to the street.

Oh well, what’s the difference; it’s all in your head anyway.

That’s a pretty good looking herbivore.

Opal should stick with painting as an amateur and save her works. Who knows, after she dies her relatives (if there are any) can point to her “works of art” and say they have “an Opal collection” and it’ll be priceless, just like in art galleries.

Off topic, just need someplace to whine…

I’m a very good painter. Our kitchen cabinets look great, and I also do walls and furniture pretty well, too. :-)

Perspective, depth, gaze, and horns.

They say anyone can do art!…. oh, I stand corrected.

“Sure you can say that if you want to, but wouldn’t you LIKE to have a cow that looked like a rhinoceros?”

Maybe if she tries to paint a rhinoceros, it’ll look like a pretty good-looking cow.

Of course, it could also look like, say, a pretty good-looking narwhal.
