But do you know? One time I was 41 minutes old. Stream your show so you can watch it after you’re done eating. Or is this strip stuck in reruns that are dated back before streaming was a thing?

That’s weekends around our house. face to face calls with the great granddaughter and her mom. At 7 in the morning! I’m retired don’t do 7 on the weekends.

I don’t really believe in kids having to sit at the table until everyone has finished eating, especially when you have guests over and the grown-ups take their time, maybe chatting for ages. Back when my kids were young they asked to be excused, especially if we weren’t especially conversing with them. (and I was very lucky, our kids were and are still extremely courteous and well behaved, up to the point that strangers in restaurants would come to our table and congratulate us on them). All comes down to showing them respect, they learn to show it back.

Dad needs to buy an answering machine.

I used to have a teacher that would let me talk about garfield comics then he showed me his favorite comic and it was a big book filled with calvin and hobbes comic stripes!! Thats ehat got me into this series! :3

I remember that era where— if the phone rang— you HAD to answer it! Of course, there were no answering machines yet, either.

It would be funny if the call was for the dad. Sadly, I can’t remember if his name was ever mentioned.

Living with hypocritical parents sucks!

Today she would have the cell phone out on the dinner table so she wouldn’t have to jump up and run to answer the land line. If they had one.

Life is rough..

Ahhh, those fun moments for kids where parents demonstrate some hypocrisy after being snottily imperious.

Probably a telemarketer.

The ONLY exception to the “No electronics” rule at our dinner table is if a very important call is expected. When my dad contacted Covid (which eventually did kill him) my phone was near me during dinner. My sister has a special ring tone so if it wasn’t her tone, I didn’t answer. Modern technology makes this so much easier.

So the lesson here is: building character weakens your genes…

My family had the same sense of comic timing.

We eat in front of the TV; having done so since we became empty nesters.

Heh, pretty funny with the telephone! At least the Mom was expecting that call, unlike when telemarketers or scam callers try to call us during dinner.

An average dinner lasting 40 minutes? In my family, they usually go up to around 15, sometimes 20 minutes.

Funny funny cartoon today!, I think we really lost something when this stopped publishing almost 30 years ago. Although it can be hard on the irony impaired, still one of my favorites. ;-)

Priorities are a very personal thing

If I knew when I was younger that I could stream my favourite shows when I wanted I would have missed a lot less in life.

I have basic cable and no DVD player so I do not have the replay option on live TV.

Why would anyone call during dinner time. Just rude.

Adult hypocrisy can indeed be very funny, when caught in flagrant.
