“If I were trying to advise Biden right now, it would be: Mr. President, 24 hours ago, your primary legacy was going to be as the man who stopped Trump. Right now, your legacy is on course to be the man who enabled Trump to get back into the White House after January 6, after his indictments, after his conviction. You don’t want that to be your legacy.”
I cannot see a way he quits at this point. And I can see Jim Geraghty’s point. All too clearly. Even though “well, WAPO”.
I’ll be voting for ANY Democrat from the bottom of the ballot to the top (I reserve the right to vote for a person I actually know and respect in local races, regardless of party). I hope almost everyone who might have wanted a better Democrat candidate remembers what happened when they did NOT vote for Hillary.
sigh All this panic and finger-pointing over one bad debate performance in June in a volatile election with a loose-cannon opponent is ridiculous. Anyone who’s trying to contend the Biden is frail and unable to handle the job should calm down and just watch this clip from a rally the day after the debate. https :// www.youtube. com/watch?v=6QtISXR5nKo
The debate was a stupid idea. Its time has come and went. Traitor trump versus a decent American man who is making great choices for all Americans. Gee, who will I going to vote for?? True Americans will vote for democracy. That is Joe Biden.
And to all those “loyal democrats” calling for Biden to drop out WHO would you replace him with that would still pull enough of the middle 40 to beat trump? I’ll wait.
Look up Gish Gallop. Biden came to the debate to debate. Traitor Trump came to the debate to steam roll it with all the Repub’s tired old lies and tropes.
As, for me, I’ll never consider someone who lied through the entire debate, avoiding the important questions a winner of the debate. Only a fool would think so.
tЯump could have farted and it would have made more sense than any of the tripe he was spreading, he spreads it more than a John Deer MS14 in high range. Heard he was complaining because of the low turnout at one of his dullard maga conventions
It’s not even a flesh wound, it was one terrible debate. And as bad as it was, tRump lost that debate. Do we want a successful president, or a liar, rapist and convicted felon?
It has been said that 83.4% of all statistics are made up on the spot, although sometimes I use a different number.
In contrast, almost 100% of the statistics the Dotard quoted, including “Everybody”, were made up on the spot, and have no relationship with reality. Give him points for glibness; he can make up stuff without any effort at all.
I don’t understand why everybody is getting on Biden about his problems when every word out of Trump’s mouth was a lie. Personally, I’d rather have an old man showing off his old-mannishess rather than an outright LIAR for president. They need to stop dwelling on Biden and spend a whole lot more time on Trump’s constant lying. The only 2 honest words out of his mouth are “and” and “the”.
My fondest hope is that, sometime in the next week, a delegation comprising Jaime Harrison, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and the entire Delaware Congressional delegation (but not Kamala Harris, because it would appear to be too self-serving) would have a little sitdown in the Oval Office with Joe Biden and explain the hard realities to him. He’s been a good president, and he’s done wonderful things for the country, but he’s losing it. And he’s costing votes for the Dems lower down on the ticket. Not so much that they’ll vote Republican or for 3rd-party candidates as that they’ll just not vote at all. The best thing Joe can do for his party, his country, and democracy in general is to gracefully give way to a younger generation.
There are over a hundred million Democrats in America, and surely they can find someone who has a ton of qualifications and can hold it together better than he can. I’ve already seen a dozen names bandied about; the Democratic National Convention could sort them all out if Joe would just release his delegates to vote their consciences.
We don’t need another Ruth Bader Ginsburg, also a wonderful person in her time but who tried to hold on too long against the almost certain death sentence of pancreatic cancer, thereby producing the church-state disaster that goes by the name Amy Coney Barrett.
Joe should do the right thing, then ride off into the sunset awash in the sincere thanks of a grateful nation for one last amazing, unforgettable, selfless act in service to democracy and enjoy the retirement he’s so richly earned.
So when Gabby Thomas gets to Paris and twists her ankle getting out of a cab, you’re going to scout the nation for another elite runner who wasn’t fast enough to make the team and hasn’t been through the Olympic training regimen, and put her on a plane? I know it’s a flawed analogy; there probably are also-ran substitutes for Gabby. Show me one Dem who’s been out on the campaign trail, besides Kamala of course.
Funny thing about the debate: If you read the transcript you will see the Biden got better as the evening went on; he figured out that Trump was not going to actually answer any questions but was solely going to tell one lie after another. MAGA-folks believe dishonesty is the single greatest quality a president can have.

From Jim Geraghty in The Washington Post:

I guess you’ve never really listened to a Trump speech, or hopefully, you never took hydroxychloroquine.

One 90 minute debate does not negate all the achievements President Biden has achieved during his presidency. Period.

Actually, it was just one debate. Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. were terrible in their first debate.

Yes, Biden’s debate performance was pathetic. What is more pathetic, however, is that so many believe that therefore Trump won.
