“And then I applied once, and they rejected me, and that’s it. In the face of adversity, I folded. And then I did comic strips for fifty years. The end.”

They’re sure diggin’ into those tasty Montoni’s pizzas, aren’t they! I like how they talk so not stuck-up jerklike, as we discover what this “interview destines.”

A personal Lagrange point? Is he talking about the space between his ears? Or is he trying to describe the concept of a third body being caught in deep space, never going anywhere or doing anything, as two distant astronomical bodies immobilize it with their equally-balanced gravitational pulls? Never in my weirdest dreams did I think that Sheik Yabuti would hint at a mathematical description of the Funkyverse!

’That was also the summer I started grooming my facial hair to increase my resemblance to Sonny Bono!"

What, no thoughts of working for Batom Comics?

I loved my comics! The excitement of when the new ones came out each week, who’s going to get in trouble now.

The 2nd panel artwork has poignancy, showing the Lower Manhattan skyline before the rise of the WTC.

Stan Lee was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher and producer. He rose through the ranks of a family-run business called Timely Comics which later became Marvel Comics. ….Died 2018 at 95!

Well clearly Funky Winkerbean II is being cancelled at the end of this year, since he’s decided to devote the summer to putting together this poorly written (and unsurprisingly dull) autobiography and plopped it into the middle of summer. Then he gets to wrap it all up with The Burnings and, with a Wave of His Magic Mop, TimeMop™ can clean up the dreck of two once-enjoyable strips ruined because the author somehow decided that he was too good for what he was good at doing.

A Lagrange point is in a region of equilibrium, not of transition. A region of rapid transition might be called a shock.

The first time—and pretty much every time—I flew into Hong Kong my thoughts were, “Eeek, the tips of the wings are less than a hundred yards away from apartment buildings and kids playing soccer!”

Sorry, Mopey Pete fans. This is the second story arc in a row at Monotoni’s without an appearance by Mopey Pete. Were Mopey Pete and Windy Mindy dismissed in the latest round of layoffs at Batom, Inc.? Monotoni’s, now run by the giant faceless conglomerate, NexusCorp Industries?

Nah. More likely, Yabtui wanted to give himself, I mean Batton Thomas, more panels to demonstrate his prodigious wordplay. Can you imagine what it’s like sharing a lunch table with this pretentious blowhard? Check, please!

Stan Lee was down there and so was Jack Kirby. At that moment I decided start a comic strip and then wait to see which one of them died first, so that I could then pick his bones by including a character who was a rip-off of him.

“Passed a personal Lagrange point between the sway of the past and the pull of the future.”

    NOBODY TALKS LIKE THIS!

For a man obsessed with “reality”, Batiuk sure seem detached from it.
