It’s really Mum’s fault for putting a Kafkaesque idea in to Calvin’s head. Clearly he knew about Kafka and The Metamorphosis.

Have to give Mom some of the blame here.

To my knowledge, this is the only time in the strip that Calvin was actually threatened with an asz-smacking!! (Of O so many he RICHLY deserved!!)

Figures that Calvin would know who Kafka is, but not know what a bedbug is.

LOL… Calvin has an AMAZING imagination.

Panic!!!!!Mountain out of a molehill???

I can empathize with Calvin here. This was something my folks used to say to me when I was a very young kid, and I thought nothing of it. However, years later when I had kid I began saying this to my daughter; she began crying after a couple of days because she thought she was responsible for keeping the bed bugs from biting her….and she didn’t know why there were bugs in her bed at night to begin with. Wow, was that unforeseen! Gotta admit, that was quite a guilt trip I took. Fortunately she was finally convinced this was just a saying, but the subject has never been broached again…and she’s 37 now!

Very funny today but also very worrying that Cal knows where the bug spray is and can get to it. Does he know where matches are?

All he tried to do was kill a bug.

And now Calvin’s room smells like nerve gas.

The hardest one for Calvin to explain.

My younger self had no idea what “Kafka” meant when I read this.

Now I see where Heinlein got the idea for Starship Troopers

I remember this one in my grandpa’s book, I always thought it looked like Calvin and Hobbes where jinnies flyingon a magic suitcase.

So the bug was all in his imagination?

Love this one. I still think two of the best ‘bed monster’ ones are when they ambush dad thinking he’s the monster, and when the monster offers Hobbes some fresh salmon.

Bug spray is toxic. It has to be SERIOUSLY toxic to kill bugs.

Raid leaves a smell that sticks around for a while.

Even though I have seen most of them before, they are still hilarious!

Must be awful to be stuck with that monster kid.

Does Calvin know who Kafka was?

Calvin needs constant supervision. His mother deserves an award.

A few years ago one of the office suites in the building had a bedbug infestation.

One of the employees in that department apparently stayed in an infested motel somewhere & brought back a few of them.
