Back in the 70s if your clothes didn’t all match, you got teased/bullied. “Stripes with flowers?” Nowadays in my city there’s a brand called DesIgual; their selling point is mismatched designs and patterns.

Where is Hobbes in all this? Why hasn’t he come to Calvin’s aid? As a matter of fact, those mismatched clothes would look even more weird on Hobbes’ striped body.

The story of my life.

I’ve been wondering why I see so many videos of people with caps on backwards. Now I know. It’s the cap’s decision, not the wearer’s.

Let him go to school that way. His classmates already know he’s a loon. They’ll just chalk it up to “Calvin being Calvin.” Oh, and of course they’ll remorselessly pick on him.

This is like when I’m asleep and someone knocks and I throw clothes on before I’m fully awake.

I wonder what did his classmates say? I wish Calvin interacted more with his classmates, the comic strip have very few main characters.

Not colorblind; Fashion Senseless….

One of the earliest Calvin and Hobbes strips that I read. I remember reading it when it was first published in late 1987.

I’ve seen tones of people dress like that before. (not that it looks good or anything.)

Cal is fighting his clothes while trying to resist doing what his mom said. Totally different than most others and very funny.

Mom: Don’t give me that, young man! Did you even bother turn on the light before getting dressed? You are going to march your rebellious butt back up to your room and you’re not leaving until you are dressed appropriately! And to make sure you do, I’ll be watching you like a hawk! And we WILL talk about this after school!

I like Calvin’s shirt, green and purple is a combo that always works for me.

Little known fact: Calvin modeled for Salvador Dali. Dali claimed Calvin’s unusual style of dress was inspiring.

What stupid parents would even BUY those clothes? And then they blame the school for bullying !!

Imagination is great, but Calvin’s is completely over the top!

There goes another interesting episode. This strip does not disappoint you a single day, when it comes to excitement. Hail to Watterson!

Well at least the backwards ballcap is trendy.

My daughter used to like to wear the brightest, eye-watering, tie-dye shirts when she was about 8 years old. She is now 37 and her daughter has now taken over that mantel :0)

When I folded my boys’ clothes, I would match the different outfits before putting them away. Yet, on the days that I had to go to work early and my husband had to get the boys ready for school/daycare, this is what they looked like when I picked them up(points at Calvin in the last panel.)

And this is why deep down Calvin is a nudist and is depicted naked in so many other strips. He despises clothes and the feeling is mutual.

Catholic schools here, black pants, white shirt and a tie. Black. I could tie my tie in my sleep – and I do a Windsor knot.

That outfit would probably have been considered cool in the 80s.

I base my sense of fashion on what doesn’t itch….like Gilda Radner said.

Back in the 1800s, in England, it was the fashion to mix stripes with dots, and what we would consider now to be very unstylish, colors that clash, i.e. orange with red or purple, etc.
