I remember all the media articles in the 70s talking about how Americans suffered from “skin hunger” because we didn’t hug or touch each other enough. Hugging became fashionable. Fast forward 30 years and a Spanish couple I know who were going to work as elementary teachers for a year in the US were told repeatedly that they could only tap students on the shoulder. All other physical contact was open to litigation and therefore forbidden. Even grabbing their arm to keep them from falling etc was suspect.

He’s doing something at least. Good for him.

Kick in the shins is the GOP mantra.

Hugs would help; but in most cases people would start swinging if they got that close. Welcoming folks outside our church yesterday, I witnessed a pointless dispute. Two drivers met on a narrow street, one in the middle of the road, blocking it completely. They came to a stop almost bumper to bumper, so manoeuvring was impossible. After several minutes staring at each other, lady A got out and walked to the other car, explaining that she was only about 20 feet from her driveway, so that lady B would only have to back up a single car length to resolve the dispute. Several more minutes passed before we (a crowd had gathered by this time, even though the choir was starting) finally saw the back-up lights on lady B’s car. After another minute or two of stop-and-go, lady B managed to reverse that 20 feet.

Is it ok to say a " naked hug " ?

If I were ruler of the world, I’d outlaw AI in animated projects and make an amendment that says you can’t cancel an animated project that’s already finished. Yep, I’m looking at you, Zaslav.

I’ve always loved this strip but lately. I love it even more. Wonderful approach to what we are living through, while worrying about the outcome. Thank you Mr. Pastis.

A long, long time ago when I was a kid I remember the old timers saying this country was going to Hell in a handbasket. And that was when people still knew what a hand basket was. Every generation says the same thing when they get old as change comes to the way they grew up and got used to. The world is always changing. The conservative mindset opposes change. This Great Nation will go on as long as we don’t elect a dictator.

One of the (many) things I like about living in Mexico is that hugging is a common part of everyday human interactions. :-)

To Sirbadger. Just out of curiosity, in the USA when you “Fix” a pet you have basically rendered it impotant. (Didn’t think I could get away with the actual word). I can believe your comment is meant as a play-on-words, and if so it’s pretty good, but???

……… the problem is, these both work ONLY when the individuals who have the greatest amount of control of either system completely understand and respect the principles and philosophy of ALTRUISM.

Democracy is just mob rule. Laws can be discarded or made up at any time for any reason, as long as there is a majority + 1. I’ve heard it described as 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what’s for dinner. The U.S. is a Constitutional Republic, which means that everyone has to follow the laws, whether or not the majority wants to have it their way, or not. Basically, majority rules in Congress are for only certain circumstances. It’s usually 2/3 or 3/4 vote from each house. Juries, petit and grand, must have a unanimous decision.

I am truly sorry to say that it no longer amazes me the amount of hate some people have for one man who has nothing but the country’s best interests at heart. It’s one thing to disagree, but this is way beyond that. When a person gets shot plus another attempt is made you have people saying that the person should have been a better shot, better luck next time, and other hateful statements, it’s one thing to disagree, but this has exceeded that.

At least Pig is trying a positive approach.

It’s the thought that counts.
