Calvin is at the age when he hasn’t yet internalized personal responsibility for his actions. Nothing, it seems, is ever his fault. He behaves as though he thinks he is above the rules of the house. That the rules apply to everyone else but him. Is that why fans enjoy this comic? They secretly wish they could be like Calvin?
Thank you Bill Watterson and Calvin and Hobbes, for all the wonderful memories ever since. I started reading this wonderful comic strip in 2006.
Long live the walls we crashed throughI had the time of my life with youLong, long live the walls we crashed throughHow the kingdom lights shined just for me and youAnd I was screaming, “Long live all the magic we made”And bring on all the pretenders, I’m not afraidSinging long live all the mountains we movedI had the time of my life fighting dragons with youAnd long, long live the look on your faceAnd bring on all the pretendersOne day, we will be remembered
Calvin, when you’re older, see how long you keep a job when your projects and work are always one day late. School assignments prepare you for this responsibility.
So, Calvin thinks he’s qualified to assess and make choices on whether others deserve to live? Perhaps he’s lucky his mom exercised one such choice in his favor years ago.
From the vantage point of my mid-70’s, I can look back and truthfully say there were a LOT of entire classes – let alone class projects – that I could have easily skipped with NO impact on my life.
Unfortunately, there is just no way to determining that at the time and place of the class.

Now we wait to see if the project will be more than a day late.

Calling your mom a “conniption queen” is certainly a bold move. The kid has guts.

In the last panel, I could never tell if Hobbes was like oh yeah good point, or if it was more sarcasm. Probably the latter, considering Calvin.

If Calvin’s life was hanging in the balance, he might be a little more concerned.

That’s one of the things I love about Calvin. He is more concerned with quality than quantity. ;)

How about YOUR life, Calvin? That’s actually the life at stake here.

Cal’s last comment sounds a little familiar, as if recently suggested in someone’s musing on his future.

That attitude will only get you so far in life, kid. Need we remind you of the Bug Project Incident?

“All lives are equal, but some lives are more equal than others” … I think is the corollary to something George Orwell once wrote.

This does seem to be the prevailing attitude today. It doesn’t matter until it happens to someone I care about.

As usual the urgency of the task depends on WHO’S life is in danger.

LOL… “… Even if lives DID hang in the balance, it would depend on whose they were”. That is a bit scary.
