Day 5: Five days with no plot holes! I don’t mind a slow build, so I’ve no complaints. It appears this location will tie to the story that’s coming. It’s past history may or may not be an element… It could be “Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.” Let’s see how long the logic can continue! Maybe even into a whole week of story!
Bit of trivia. For many years the largest four sided clock in the world was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A few years ago the Saudi’s built one in Mecca that dwarfed the Milwaukee clock. I was actually a bit disappointed when I saw Big Ben the first time. In my mind it had always been much bigger than it was in the flesh… Not that it actually has flesh.
The clock face is interesting. For the numeral 4 it uses “IV” which, of course, is a proper form of a Roman numeral. But the majority of clock faces with Roman numerals prefer to show 4 as “IIII” rather than “IV” (for aesthetic reasons, as far as I can make out). I have three clocks with Roman numerals in this room with me and all three use “IIII”— Tracy needs to investigate the designer of that clock face! They are clearly up to no good!
The building appears to be an amalgam of the Merchandise Mart (1930) and the Reid, Murdoch & Co. building, which is two blocks east on the Chicago River. “Britannica” is above clock face, as headquarters of Encyclopedia Britannica is now located in the 1914 landmark structure. For decades the Merchandise Mart was the largest building in the world. It had its own zip code until 2008. It has an ‘L’ stop served by the Brown and Purple Lines.
After a week of set-up hopefully the story will be worth it.By the way, I maybe mistaken, didn’t one of Tracy’s rouge die or was capture because he fell on a clock tower’s hand?

Chester Gould’s old “Sawdust” & “Invisible Tribe” strips had more plot & narrative drive than what we’ve seen this week.

Why does the clock have IV for 4? Every clock I have with Roman numerals has IIII ! Even though IV is correct, clocks for some reason have the IIII!

I’ve seen stories of old abandon warehouses and factories with stuff left in there, but I still think it might be a criminal’s hideout.

If the old company had an exclusive contract with the military, does that mean ♪♪"The only way is up"?♪♪

They made soldier’s gear in the clock? Not only does Eric need to learn how a story works, he also needs to learn how the English language works.

On their way back to the Station House, Dick n’ Sam discuss Tracyville history…
1- DT: The clock in that abandoned building is only right twice a day, Sam – so it’s got you beat by at least one! SAM SLAM © HAR HAR HAR!
2- SAM: I’m wearing one of the items they used to manufacture there! DT: Oh yeah? What is it – your ugly hat? Ugly suit?
3- SAM: Nope. My military-grade truss! Really holds things in. Wanna see? DT: Just shut-up, Sam…

Wonder what an abandoned factory that made military gear can be used by a criminal enterprise?
Or maybe as someone suggested they’ll literally find a few skeletons to start a tough murder investigation……….
