/// She is avid, this Old Woman Reading

    a Book using pince-nez which she’s needing

    to discern the fine print

    in her Septuagint,

seeking loopholes. (For mercy she’s pleading.)

Checking the obituaries to make sure she’s not dead yet. Something I’ve gotten into the habit of doing lately just for my peace of mind.

To be considered elderly in the 1660’s probably meant you were over 35 years old.

Her interest piqued by several paintings on display that portrayed the Biblical story of ‘Susanna and the Elders’, Willemina was disappointed that her edition of the Bible did not mention it. And she had so wanted to discuss it at her ‘MeToo’ meeting.

Glory be! Mother put sage AND thyme in her turkey stuffing. All these years I’ve only used thyme – no wonder it never tasted right.

Not even Jake Paul will hit an old woman. She’s got the advantage.

    Old Woman Reading a Book

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Undated paintings" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Brave search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Gerard, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly US Government letter size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3410 (November 13, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 7 works associated with him have been used here, the March 30, 2016, strip being the prior. GoComics has deactivated the hyperlinks and removed the new lines in my comments there; but, perhaps the text remains informative.

A rare glimpse of a fallen-off fashion. Dou used to be very big in Victorian Britain, but I for one haven’t seen much of his art, and only recognize the name from Gilbert & Sullivan. OK, Steve, show us some Zoffanies next.
