In the Netherlands where I live, we put up the Christmas tree and/or decorations after December 6 after our other holiday (Sinterklaas) and it will remain up at least until January 6 (Epiphany); that’s how it should be, that’s all part of the holiday season.
Traditionally you keep the tree up until the fifth of January. Most folks here at least keep it up through Hogmanay and to the second. The season ain’t quite over yet. The American rush to get Christmas packed away so quickly before even New Years is almost as bemusing to me as their rush to start it as soon as Halloween is over.
After all the build-up, I always needed a wind-down before taking down the decorations. (If you do it right, the holiday season goes from Halloween to St. Patrick’s Day and gets you right through the winter!)
Centuries ago it was customary to put up the Christmas tree and other decorations on December 24. December 25 was the First Day of Christmas and the season ran for twelve days until the evening of January 5, which was called Twelfth Night. In some cultures Twelfth Night was as big of a celebration as Christmas Day. It was also the night when Christmas decorations were taken down because the following day, January 6, was the Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day.
Because we had some things going on that delayed putting up our tree and other Christmas decorations, I don’t see us talking stuff down till the end of this week. Christmas is great, but you need to move on.
The season ends January 5th. We always keep our tree up and lights on until then. Then we have to wait until March or so for everything to thaw enough to take all the outside decorations down.
Driving in the dark this morning was depressing, hardly anyone had still had their Christmas lights on, last week it seemed like everyone did and the world was bright and cheerful even in dense fog

April, stand she will
When boughs are stipe and welled with pain
May, she will still stay
Resting there in peace again
June, she’s a mange soon
In clueless ways we’ll howl all night
July, she will fly
We gave a warning to her flight
August, out she must
The needles rests fall chilly and bold
November, I remember
As this year’s Xmas tree we reuse the old

I’m with Jon. In fact, leave it up year round for cheerfulness.

If Liz were with them, she’d be exasperated with that decision.

I’m surprised Jon bothered asking Garfield for help, it’s clearly too much like hard work for both of them

Just 7 months left to burn, batter, and destroy the tree. In other words, getting rid of it.
