Coming Soon š At the beginning of April, youāll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
The second panel reminds me of the episode in M*A*S*H where Hawkeye is Officer of the Day and Frank Burns is trying to get him to pack a ānugā.
āFrank, Iāll carry your books, carry a torch, carry a tune, carry on, carry over, carry forward, Cary Grant, cash-and-carry, carry me back to old Virginie, Iāll even āHari-Kariā if you show me how, but I will NOT carry a nug.ā
Iām glad I wasnāt an only childā¦I had 4 brothers (I was 2nd)ā¦and weād always find something to do without the tvā¦whether it was board games like monopoly or outside playing tag or something. And of course, ārough housingāā¦weād see who could pin who to the floor/groundā¦lots of chances to get in trouble!
Maybeā¦ā¦ā¦Calvinās Mom could get a āpart-timeā job being a kicker for a āsemi-proā female football teamāshe does have pretty good form ! ! !!
I read a story ā probably over on NotAlwaysRight ā about a brat who would start to undress if he didnāt get his way. He tried this trick in the dentistās office. The dentist calmly watched as the kid strip down, glancing up from time to time to see if he was having any effect ā and once the boy was buck nekkid, the good doctor picked him up, plunked him down in the chair, and began to work. As you know, that leatherette chair is chilly, so the boy was uncomfortable, but not a word was said by either the dentist or the boyās mother. Procedure over, the dentist lifted him down, handed the little imp his clothing, and asked the mother to come to the front desk to make a follow-up appointment.
Mother was both impressed and grateful. She said she was often tempted to do exactly that in the grocery store, but didnāt have the nerve. However, she allowed as how she didnāt think sheād have to worry about it in the future.
I donāt think she had to think too hard. Too bad itās not safe or politically correct to send your child out to play in the yard unsupervised any more.
He must be a good five feet off the ground in the third panel and is clearly not able to position himself to control the fall. Yet he seems to have landed on his feet with no trouble.
Well, I can say my mother NEVER kicked me. I have been beaten with a leather belt, a military web belt (look it up), a wooden spoon, a broom handle, a bare hand on the butt, an extension cord and a piece of lumber. Good thing mom never kicked me.
I daresay that the implication that she is literally kicking him out the door is simply a matter of emphasis, like the time the library threw him out for bursting into very loud song (being a songbird, of course!) That having been said, I love Calvinās last line. I wonder how long she paused before reaching down and yanking him off the chair.

Calvinist1966, youāve said on numerous occasions that Mom cares about Calvin. Is Panel #3 an example of her ācaringā??

If you listened to Trumpās speech before Congress, listened really hard, Trump said pretty much what Calvin says in panel 2.

Why would she have had to think about it?

A rare one where Mom boots him out. Usually Mom tosses him out, while Dad boots him out.

I was lucky. I grew up when a Mum would just say āGet outā and we would. Wander around. Never felt endangered.

Cal achieves launch with minimal effort. Very efficient but thatās because it is the result of much practice.

Love how Watterson drew the chair. It sets the tone along with the galloping TV set.

You are wrong kiddy. She caught you, made you to wear that jacket and booted you. No, she did not think twice. She is your mother alright.

That chair reminds me of the loud, floral patterns my folks had on our furniture way back in the 60ās.
