Back when they were introducing rotary dial phones, the phone company put out movie shorts explaining how to operate one. It really confounded people, having all those numbers to deal with and not being able to talk to the operator. You can watch one of the films on YouTube.
Who here has seen the interview with the NASA representative who says they lost the technology? They also erase all the telemetry data. All of it. Because it was not big deal, they needed to reuse the tapes.
B. you could also dial by hitting the switchhook Just Right. That’s what they’re doing in old movies where they rap on the switchhook and say “Operator! Operator!”
I had friends who had to take 20 tries to dial a number. (it might have been attributable to the partying they did prior to trying to call for a pizza delivery)

And we put a man on the moon before we figured out it was a good idea to put wheels on luggage

Yup. We got to the moon using BRAINS and DRIVE and AMBITION.
Would like to see more of that in the Zoomer population.

Scientists got us to the moon. General stupidity got us into our current dystopia.

Lily Tomlin’s character Ernestine would not have been as funny if she used a touchtone phone.

I’m amazed at the minds that got the rotary phone to work.

The big question is why we haven’t been back to the moon in more than fifty years with all of our more advanced technology.

Apollo Astronauts punched in “noun” and “verb” commands into the flight computer. And… it worked.
I used a sextant to get across the pond in a C-130 decades ago. And… it worked. No GPS, no INS.
I’ve been teaching my brilliant 12 year old granddaughter how to use a circular slide rule. It works…

At least that one doesn’t require you climbing up a telephone pole

Come on, now! Everyone knows the Moon landings were a hoax! The best people tell me so.

For 8-based telephone numbers. 1 – 7 and the zero. Can’t even dial any 0800 numbers.

Fun fact: touch tone dialing had been invented shortly before we landed on the Moon.
