Toni, smoother then she looks.
9thCapricorn about 12 years ago
Another dumb male cop intimidated by a gorgeous female firefighter. Toni, you are a law-breaker. You are no better than DIRK! Guess he rubbed off on ya.
9thCapricorn about 12 years ago
And SO glad Greg did not bring Dirk back as a cop. Better an intimidated cop than Dirk.
Cofyjunky about 12 years ago
There’s still so much that could go wrong. And, why shouldn’t Quill get that letter. Never underestimate the power of a well-written love-letter. ;)
SideshowStarlet about 12 years ago
I bet Luann changes her mind at the last minute. Saturday’s strip will show her deciding to let Quill receive the letter and let the chips fall where they may. Then we’ll have a few weeks of other arcs before seeing the result of Luann’s love letter.
stanr888 about 12 years ago
And it is really dumb to try to grab anything, much less one particular letter from a mail box. They were specifically designed to thwart any attempt to retrieve a mailed letter. Best of luck to you guys. Maybe someone should ask Lu Ann just what she wrote before committing a federal offense to recover it. Just my 2 cents.
kmwtigger about 12 years ago
a more reasonable explanation would be that someone reported hearing a noise from the mailbox, possibly a small animal stuck inside. Legitimate reason to at least check things out inside the box.
Hank1938 about 12 years ago
There’s another cop sitting in the car… (Dirk?) This is going to come back to haunt them!
SwimsWithSharks about 12 years ago
I’m glad they didn’t have to kill him.
kfccanada about 12 years ago
Finally, Toni’s been depicted as a strong, self-assured female rather than a wishy-washy blond who can’t seem to make a commitment. However, she didn’t really consider the legal aspect of retrieving Luann’s letter…so…she’s still thinking with her heart rather than her brain.
Pharmakeus Ubik about 12 years ago
Too bad. Not only would Jim Morrison liven up this strip (assuming he wasn’t too drunk,) but he also would not be intimidated by Toni.
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
Apparently two firefighters (one, a gorgeous female) trump one cop. —Particularly when the cop isn’t sure a crime has been committed. So, now it looks like one will be….
Rockabore about 12 years ago
I really don’t get why it’s so important that they get the stupid letter. Luann and Quill would actually get somewhere in their non-relationship even if it’s just them webcamming a billion miles apart. It’s like they’re trying to stop an actual plot advancement with stupidity. I can tell nothing is going to be gained by them stopping the letter so it’s all a waste of time.
Tue Elung-Jensen about 12 years ago
Well WE know they wouldn´t do anything besides getting her letter, but anyone else wouldn´t. So in the end its not really a positive side.
Semper Fido about 12 years ago
Cops make act like bullies to everyone else, but they defer to firefighters. If they get into a life and death situation, only fire and EMS can save ’em.

There is something about women in uniform …

Okay.Okay.WHERE are All the Folks that THOUGHT the Guy yelling “FREEZE” was TJ?Uh, Huh. THOUGHT So….,
Gerry Lee about 12 years ago
Toni is evil. As soon as the cop turns around she’s diving right back at the mail box. Of course she’s planning on breaking the law, they didn’t walk down the street just to stare at the mail box. She looks good, but she’s white trash through and through…
StoicLion1973 about 12 years ago
First name on badges?
Doctor11 about 12 years ago
I say “yes” to both.

Cops are stupid! You can’t fix stupid.

It’s not just a comic for Christ’s sake. It’s a comic for everyone.
sleeepy2 about 12 years ago
What tampering?! They were shining a flashlight on a mailbox!
SwimsWithSharks about 12 years ago
Get a grip! It’s a comic… for Christ’s sake.
Words of wisdom… to ponder while we wait for the claw.
yldonaldson about 12 years ago
The comments were funnier than the strip. I agree that “hearing a mewing sound” from the mailbox would have been better than a fire safety inspection. Really?
ccronan about 12 years ago
There is a procedure for retrieving a letter in a box. or hang around when the mail is supposed to be picked up. Luann can definitively describe the envelope, and if there is a return address, ID herself..
luannfan about 12 years ago
Are there really police forces where officers have only their first names on their uniform?
imbaldeagle about 12 years ago
I don’t think Toni was planning on tampering with the mail. Even though she is blonde, she’s been portrayed as being smarter than that. No problem yet – they’re just looking, but now what? Better worry about what Luann is learning, it may not be the right lesson..For instance – teacher was demonstrating the toxicity of alcohol to her class. She showed a worm swimming in a glass of water, then she showed a worm dying in a glass of alcohol. When she asked the class was could be learned from this, one boy said, “if you’ve got worms, drink alcohol.”

krelboyne about 12 years ago
So Toni flirts with Officer Jim and Brad, as usual, is clueless. Is there a ride-along in Toni’s future?
eocene82 about 12 years ago
no no no just stop. Please stop this story. Every aspect of it is so beyond stupid. Luann writing Quill a letter about her feelings is so awful that Toni (who is just an acquaintance to Luann) is going to butt in by ditching the charity dinner she and Brad were attending to race home to stop Luann? Toni then breaks into a mailbox and somehow scares off a policeman to retrieve this letter, all to keep a teenage girl from letting a boy know how she feels (a boy she’s probably never going to see again anytime soon considering he’s in Australia). What is Toni’s problem? What is the worst thing that could happen here? Quill says he doesn’t feel the same way? How is any of this Toni’s business? Why is she risking being hit with a felony just to interfere with a teenage girl’s tame love letter to a boy she’s still heartsick over? Sheesh, back off and get a life, Toni. You’ll be lucky if you and Brad don’t both get fired over this.
Kwolfe99 about 12 years ago
If only they could just let it go… But then, we wouldn’t have anything fun to read! lol
wtec708 about 12 years ago
That was waaaayyyy too easy…
Bucinka about 12 years ago
This is bad. Not only tampering with the mailbox. but Toni trying to “protect” Luann when she didn’t ask to be protected, and Brad just going along with it like a dumb schmuck. I’m disappointed, Greg. You’ve created Luann to have the spine to tell Toni that she should be able to act for herself and then take responsibility for and learn from the results of those actions. So what if she says the L word and he doesn’t want to hear it? Like no teenage boys have ever had that happen to them. Jeez. (Plus, what’s gonna happen? He’s twelve time zones away.)
ACTIVIST1234 about 12 years ago
Captain Kirk, Captain Kirk, Toni has had a mind-meld with TJ. Or brain exchange. Back to acting— Tiffany considers herself a “natural” just because she’s pretty. If anyone wants to see someone with true “natural” talent, please see the indy film, “Beasts of the Southern Wild”.

It’s called a “professional courtesy”. One of the few perks of civil service jobs these days, apparently.
9thCapricorn about 12 years ago
O, pleeez! Toni’s WAAAY better than Dirk. “Breaking the law” is a whole diff’rent thing than physical violence.Of course, when it comes to the details…however, both are lawbreakers and they lived together. Dirk was her role model. Who knows what her family was like. That must be what we are seeing now….glimpses of her past relationships with family members, friends, and old boyfriends.Toni learned it is ok to lie, to manipulate, to confuse people, to muddle the subject, to sic a mean little girl on somebody she doesn’t like and make excuse for her instead of disciplining her….all this came from somewhere. Nancy obviously saw that and doesn’t want her for Brad. And now I don’t think she is right for Brad either even if he is ignorant and too awed by her to realize the true person she is underneath her beauty.
Sojourner about 12 years ago
People are taking this comic strip waaaaaaay too seriously! This is all only loosely based on reality; it’s all taking place in an alternate dimension, folks, where both time and the rules are extremely elastic. Chillax, enjoy the plot contrivances, go along for the ride. :-)
Scott S about 12 years ago
If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS, I always say!
yankeetexan about 12 years ago
Luann says how much she’s learning?? Toni is setting a great example huh? Lie to the police officer, get into his face & steal!
MermaidStitcher about 12 years ago
Maybe Quill will get hers at the same time She gets his letter.
rleroygordon about 12 years ago
Remember way-way-way back when Toni went in to fight for Brad with Ann? I said then that she’s gonna be busy taking over for Brad because he won’t be “forceful” enough. Looks like she’s still doing that.
Seems to me that just because she has issues with love and trust, she doesn’t have the right to interfere in Luann’s relationships.
Maybe, just maybe, Brad’s mom DOES have a reason to not like the girl.
rleroygordon about 12 years ago
Uhhhmmm, okay. I think?
krelboyne about 12 years ago
Brad does need to grow a pair.
sandigilbo about 12 years ago
Mr. Evans, this story line is wrong on so many levels.

Yes, but that’s $0.69 Canadian, so it’s only, er, $0.71 US.
Hmm.

Dave: Greg has perfected the art of the addictive strip. Many say they don’t want it, they wish they could ignore it, but they are forever altered and need their Luann fix. Unfortunately there are no rehab hoses for the hopelessly addicted. Bless their sorry souls, Dante’s Hell has a special place for them … right here!
Sheriff Mordecai Premium Member about 12 years ago
make that rehab “houses”, ’tho “hoses” might work better.
imbaldeagle about 12 years ago
All these posts about what they’re doing wrong, but I still haven’t seen any criminal activity. As I said before, “I don’t think Toni was planning on tampering with the mail… No problem yet – they’re just looking”.

“Couldn’t do it — Dirk is a felon — Felons are not allowed on the Police force.”-Further, would you WANT a convicted felon on the police force, knowing they both shouldn’t carry firearms and legally can’t?If so, perhaps addicts working in pharmacies and sexual predators working in day care centers, psychopaths for judges, ….

Why does the cop have his FIRST name on his name badge?
Sheriff Mordecai Premium Member about 12 years ago
Ok, I’ll take the bait. snerk uh, Brooke McEldowney is … uh … a guy. Let us know how “her” reply goes.
Ottodesu about 12 years ago
Sheriff beat me to it.
McEldowney has been systematically cutting off all comments areas for his strips for quite some time now. It has been what, three years since the old Comics.com site stopped, gocomics a while ago, another one not so long ago.He (HE!) hates common folk besmirching his unassailable immaculate eloquence. As Laurie Anderson said regarding TV in her song Strange Angels, this god lives in a “perfect little world that doesn’t really need you”.

can’t she just be appreciated as a firefighter, why does being a woman and being “oh so sexy as a woman” have to come into it?
