Part of what’s so disappointing about this is not only the deliberate discarding of an interesting character (Cranky), but how Batiuk makes writers look like morons…
So… which book of his own is Les forgetting? It can’t be the third part of the Dead Saint Lisa Trilogy, even though that was done as a comic book, because a) it was part of the Dead Saint Lisa Trilogy, and b) Batiuk would never denigrate comic books like that. So it must be his FIRST book, Fallen Star, the one about John Darling Who Was Murdered, that he’s forgetting. Even though Les solved an actual crime in writing it. (And probably committed a few more against the literary world by writing it, too.) But, you know, it’s not about Dead Saint Lisa, so… who cares, right? (Certainly not Dead Saint Lisa’s daughter-in-law, Jessica Darling Whose Father John Darling Was Murdered, whose father, John Darling Who Was Murdered, the book was about. But she’s not Les, so she’s not all THAT important, I guess.)
I don’t know what’s going on, but please do something about these lousy storylines. The antics of Crankshaft are so more entertaining. I can say, I don’t look forward to reading it anymore, the only reason I open it up, is hope that things will go back to “normal”. For example, the bus route- end of summer grilling- anything.
Best Actress Award winner Les Moore has arrived. Who is he wearing? Is that a Donna Karan?
Nope, it’s a mismatched assemblage from Walmart consisting of a sport jacket, dress shirt, tie and slacks. Nothing goes with anything. It’s a total mismatch. Who dresses this guy?
Les Moore appears in a new strip for the first time in almost two years. He’s already making it all about himself and whining by panel #3. Totally self-centered.
Les Moore comes face-to-face with Dinkle. I have to say I’m kind of disappointed so far. I expected something like Frankenstein vs. The Wolfman or Godzilla vs King Kong.
It’s a battle for the ages. Who is the most reviled character in the Batiukverse?
Dinkle has opened the battle with an ego blast. It’s a direct hit! Less is hit with feelings of inadequacy! It’s time for Less to battle back by mentioning his dead wife!
You’re slipping Batyuk. Where’s the little asterisk with the note telling people where to buy these books? Did you forget or did you just run out of space?
If Tom’s trip to NYC to be rejected by DC and Marvel was his personal Lagrange point, the meeting and “size of my book pile” comparison (yeah, we know what you’re really comparing, and we’d need a magnifying glass to see them) must be his personal black hole.

The first nine are real books, and you can get them on lots of sheet music stores! And honestly,I like Les,as I relate to him a bit.

Well, that’s an improvement. Les’s usual urea-yellow shirt has been dipped in Ty-D-Bowl. He’s clearly flushed with pride!

I see Les Moore finally showed up.
This strip is now officially Funky Winkerbean 2.0.

Thank you, Tom Batiuk, for not stretching this into eleven individual days to name each book one by one.
Seeing nothing but words on the preview for today’s strip is rather jarring, all the same.

In the last panel Harry looks more like Batton. Sometimes you have to clear the clipboard before you cut and paste.

I started following this strip after Funky Winkerbean ended, mainly hoping to see some of the old characters in crossover.
