There are “sensible murders” all the time. That’s what capital punishment is supposed to be, isn’t it?

A sensible murder? Let’s put that to the test. Where’s Les Moore?

There are sensible killings—self defense, war, etc. it may depend on that word “murder”.

Once again I find myself agreeing with Ed, to the extent that “senseless murders” seems like a useless phrase. It’s right up there on local news broadcasts with “tragic car crash”; I know they’re referring to a fatality, but it implies that there could be a “happy car crash.”

A murder that would not be considered senseless is if u feel your life is danger and had to protect yourself

Ummmm….sure. To keep things on a nice hypothetical plane, would anyone today denounce the generals who tried to murder Adolph Hitler? About the only disapproval you will find is that they were so unprofessional about getting it done.

Can we murder Komix Korner? That would be entirely sensible.

“Another senseless killing today, as police found the lifeless body of Irving Senseless lying in his doorway. Mr. Senseless was charged with loitering, and his wife with littering.” —George Carlin, 1968

Well if you ask Alaska House of Representatives Republican Rep. David Eastman, he argues that fatal child abuse is a financial “benefit to society.”

Republican Rep. David Eastman asked Trevor Storrs, president and CEO of the Alaska Children’s Trust, a local organization working to prevent child abuse and neglect, about the potential financial “benefits” of fatal child abuse.

“How would you respond to the argument that I have heard on occasion where, in the case where child abuse is fatal, obviously it’s not good for the child but it’s actually a benefit to society because there aren’t needs for government services and whatnot over the whole course of the child’s life?” Eastman asked.

“Senseless murders” is basically an oxymoron. Unless, it was a murder of someone who hurt your child. Then, it makes sense.

Ed is right, the terms “senseless murders” IS a contradiction when you think about. Which I normally don’t.

A sensible murder would be that of Reinhard Heidrict in 1943- one less NAZI to hang at Nurenberg.
