In order for this story to work, you have to believe that Mike got a rent cheque from his mother and instead of handing it to the landlady, the landlady has to issue a demand for the late payment. In the meantime, of all the papers that are littering Mike’s desk, Mike decided to write a grocery list on the cheque and pin the cheque to a shelf, all without once noticing what paper he was using, even putting it in a place where it was so obvious what it was, Weed found it instantly. Mike, on the other hand, decides to look for the cheque in his underwear drawer as if that was a place someone would normally place cheques.
Mike claims the problem is that he is disorganized. I think the problem is a little more fundamental than that. His ability to reason and to observe are questionable. Given all this, I am looking forward to Mike and Weed doing many more ridiculous things before the night is up. The stage is set for an evening of mistakes that an average, ordinary thinking person would not make. Bring it on!
I don’t have any sympathy for Mike losing that check. If my folks (or anyone for that matter) had paid my rent/mortgage check every month for me, I would have been very grateful and treated that check like gold!
We had a deal with our four grandkids that we would pay for all their college books to help out. All they had to do was tell us the amount and we would send a check. The first granddaughter would put in on her credit card and send us the receipts. She always cashed the checks immediately. The second granddaughter would tell us the amount after we asked two or three times. Some of the checks to her were never cashed.
Am I alone in this? I had to work to pay for my own rent and food while in college. Used a bicycle to get around. Missed games, events, parties.., and for me that was probably a good thing.

Well, I believe you’ll need to call your mom to send a new check. Doubt the bank will process it.

Michael can’t be THAT disorganized that he uses a check as scratchpaper to list groceries! Doesn’t he have his own checking account yet?

Isn’t the landlady supposed to endorse it? BTW, what does “roll-on” mean in this context? I always thought that was a kind of deodorant!

I like how Weed finds it for him, and gives him “the gears” about it too.

I remember “endorsing cheques”

I cut discarded white envelopes into thirds and put them in the junk drawer as scratchpaper. Those index cards are expensive.

Why doesn’t John or Elly just do an e-transfer of funds into his bank account? Or just Venmo the landlady?

Don’t you guys use Zelle up there in the 51st state?

Perhaps this is your mom’s way of teaching you responsibility!

Because she expects you to be an adult about things like rent! Don’t expect her to do your job.

“roll-on” must be Canadien for “Armpit anti-stink stuff”

I once worked with a guy who, although a genius in physics, was so absent minded, he once used his paycheck for scratch paper.

Ah yes, one of the signs of a truly gifted writer, is being scatterbrained. They never are at a loss for ideas.

Gordon would probably take every precaution to secure a check, as well as know what endorsement of a check means.

If Canadians don’t pay for healthcare, why should they have to pay for rent?
