I thought that A Farewell to Arms was a book about the Venus de Milo.

‘The Grapes of Wrath’: Not a horror story in a vineyard.

‘Frankenstein’: Not a Biergarten that serves link sausages.

‘Dr. Faustus’: Not a play about a plumber.

‘Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire’: Nothing to do with a clumsy Italian baseball official.

‘Tom Jones’: Not a biography of the once-popular singer.

‘Divine Comedy’: Not a retrospective of the female impersonator.

‘Samuel Pepys Diary’: Not the memoirs of a Peeping Sam.

‘The Vicar of Wakefield’: Not about a ‘woke’ clergyman.

‘Democracy in America’: A fantasy-fiction account of current United States political institutions.

Call of the Wild involves digging a hole with a shovel in the woods before last night’s camp food releases itself.

The Catcher in the Wry by Bob Uecker. He was an ok player, decent author and actor, and a fantastic announcer. RIP

OK, I give up. After reading all the above and enjoying great laughs, I have not a single title I can call on except perhaps

The Hornblower Series is not about Louie Armstrong’s world tour.

Yeh. I know. But all the good ones were taken. : ) Great comments today.

As an avid reader, I have yet avoided Jane Austen for 70+ years. Love the films, but the books drive me crazy (I have read three, refuse to read the other three). Finally read a book this week that explained why so many people “adore” her—A Jane Austen Education by William Deresiewicz.

Was also reading an article about Nathaniel Hawthorne—another revered canonical author—wherein he castigated “the hordes of scribbling women” of his day who were polluting literature with their gothic/romantic/sentimental novels—pretty rich, I thought, coming from the man who penned “The Scarlet Letter” and “The House of the Seven Gables”. . .

Very enjoyable read today. Seeing all the titles of favorite books from decades back and being reminded to look for them again. Was beginning to think that the richness of language had mostly been replaced with emojis and one-syllable texts. Evidently many are not impressed with the new trends and still hold themselves to the standards that have run through many lifetimes. Hurray for that!!

The book “The Catcher in the Rye” has nothing to do with baseball, but the title does. (I guess 7th grade English wasn’t a complete waste if I still remember that.)

A project is all about building or creating something, ideally something great. But Project 2025 is all about how to destroy something great.
