Oh no, Brad! He was doing so good in the first 2 panels. Then he totally wimped out in the last panel. Don’t do it! Hmmm…unless that smug look on his face means that he is going to demand some “interesting” conditions to his return. Did he find out some good “dirt” on her to use as leverage?

This is an unexpected development! Is Brad’s agreement to go back to work there a plot twist to get the dirt on Ms Awful and get HER fired? /// Or is he humbling himself just to get that job back. If it is for the latter reason. It could mean the end of Brad & Toni’s relationship.

Ann tried the blunt stick approach beforehand. Now comes the carrot, covered in sugar.

The fact that Brad’s eyes are narrowed leads me to hope he’s wised up overnight and they are, in fact. actually opened and he remembered Bernice’s warning. It’s unrealistic, but if it tunrs out he’s just addicted to wearing polyester and the smell of dry cleaning, then they deserve each other.

Men! Brad is above Ann Eiffel! He is angry that she ruined his relationship. Brad and Toni have survived much and they will survive this, too. I believe this is a point where Brad matures again as he has been doing steadily as the strip progresses. It is never easy, though always rewarded. Recall how far he has come since meeting Toni.

Yesterday he’s blaming Ann for ruining things with Toni (even though it was his fault he and Toni broke up) and now he’s letting the boss who came between them control him more, great idea, B-wad! I think that Brad’s already pretty much lost all likability at this point, having him actually start to date Ann Eiffel is really just overdoing it.

I can’t help but think Brad made a mistake here. He should have said “I’ll think about it” instead of giving a quick answer – that could come back to haunt him. I’m a firm believer that the Brad/Toni relationship will come out well in the end, but I still doubt that Brad is mature enough to make right choices. Too much influence from TJ. He thinks he’s got all the answers…

Well played Ms. Eiffel. Now Brad can’t go to the WW district manager with a wrongful termination complaint. She’s admitted she made a mistake and has offered him his job back. If he accepts it he’s back under her thumb if he doesn’t then he’s just out of luck because he’ll be the one that refused the job. Either way, Ms. Eiffel wins.

Ann targeted Bernice, who’s Luann’s age, when they worked at Borderline Books. And this was before Brad was an actual firefighter, so you can see that Ann likes ‘em at any age – just so they’re malleable.

I think it’s power and domination, not sex, that’s her primary objective – so the fact that she can manipulate Brad as easily as Bernice speaks to the fact he’s about on a par with Luann’s friends when it comes to awareness – not too complimentary! Zane, who was older than Bernice (maybe Brad’s age during that arc?), saw right through her.

I don’t know how you people can read “expressions” on Brad’s face. The only difference I can see is that sometimes he’s drawn with his eyes open, and other times with them (almost) closed, kinda like Harry on Third Rock From the Sun.I don’t think Brad has a plan. From what I’ve seen, he isn’t bright enough or worldly enough to come up with a plan that can take down someone like Ann.And what is it with everyone wanting Brad to record things? What would he be recording that is so incriminating? Oh, and BTW it is legal in Ohio to record someone without their permission.

You know, with all the comments about Dirk, has had me really re-examine Dirk’s actions. He started out being over-controlling of Toni and a violent hothead to Brad, but last we saw of him he was acting surprisingly polite and apparently wanted to turn his life around if he’s to be believed. It seems like Greg wouldn’t have showed Dirk acting that way for no reason… I have a feeling we might be seeing him again soon in some way. I don’t think Toni would be forgiving (or foolish) enough to go to a guy who would be considered a very bad ex-boyfriend for comfort, BUT she has shown an unusual capacity for believing his BS so anything’s possible.

wasn’t there a scene with Luann and Bern awhile back where they talked about warning Brad about the evil Ann, or at least letting him know about what she did to Bern? Anyway I think Brad has a plan to bring Ann down (no not that way!) — he’s been saying all along he would “handle” it, so maybe he’s not the stupid doofus many insist he still is. or not.

Thank you. This, so this. Ann’s harassment of Bernice was a lot more overt and that was handled by the quick fix of Borderline shipping her off to Tokyo. Look, if unemployment doesn’t even exist in Pittsville, why would the legalities involved in this issue be a part of the mix?

(Besides, Mary Worth is incapable of dealing with this, currently the old biddy’s woefully ignorant of the fact that a $50 fraud cap exists for stolen credit cards.)

At some point WW HR might step in and do something to put chocks to her, but I think she’ll take another job and hover somewhere offpage with Dirk, until Greg needs her again.

To all of those that think he is wearing a wire: It would be cool to see him pull a recorder out of his pocket. But he was in the process of storming out the doors when Ann made her play. I don’t believe Brad is swift enough to have planned for that. Perhaps (behind the scenes) TJ fessed up and had a plan to make things right again by submarining Ann by catching her in the act. If management was to get that tape and a look at the security footage for that day, it could lead to the falling of the Eiffel Tower.

I have to tell myself to calm down. This being a comic and all, there’s bound to be some satisfying resolution. If it were real life, my advice would be to get out of there, don’t fight evil with evil. In the movies, the Thing growls at a bear and the bear runs away. In real life, only a fool messes with a bear.

It seems that others also agree that this would be a good time to bring back “New Dirk”. He could be stopping over at Toni’s to pick up a CD he had lent her at some past time. He sees that she is upset and find out it’s because of Brad. He knows what to do from there.

“Ann may not be the nicest manager, but she was simply doing her job. She wanted Brad to do his work and not be interrupted by Toni’s visits. Retail management is not fun and games; restaurants typically operate on very thin margins and it is very stressful.”

“Ann does make suggestive comments…her word games and innuendo are not enough to nail her to the wall…even if her intent is bad, it’s very difficult to prove that.”

I can tell from both of these statements that you’re not only not familiar with Greg’s explanation of Ann Eiffel’s motivations, you’ve never had to sit through a seminar on sexual harassment in the workplace.

In addition, you have no concept that Ann’s solution of “wanting Brad to do his job” by banning every paying customer he talk to from entering would result in such a massive arbitrary service discrimination lawsuit that “thin margins” and “stress” would no longer be problems for management, since the establishment would be in receivership at the end.

Managers who “are simply doing their job” fire employees with an attention deficit problem, they don’t keep them on but ban patrons that distract them.

Managers dealing with “thin margins” don’t have employees run personal errands for them on the company clock.

Managers who understand “it’s not fun and games” don’t lay unsolicted hands on customers in a harassing manner – it’s called “assault”. If they react and threaten them with violence, it doesn’t negate the manager’s action – they’re the aggressor in the situation. See above for lawsuit and consequences of same.

It’s not about where Ann’s “nice” or not, or whether she likes “word games” – which is a gross misrepresentation at best .

Ann’s continued the pattern of abuse and harassment she started with Zane and Bernice, Greg’s quite clear she’s a malign person. And if you’re looking for “slimy instigators”, “Ann” comes before “TJ”.

Ann may also appear “smarter” than everyone, because the underhanded will always have the advantage over people who are cumbered with ethics.

HOWEVER, for all her machinations, Ann isn’t directly responsible for “messing up” Brad’s relationship – although that was clearly her intent. Brad recognized that her demands weren’t right, and sold out to keep things “peaceful” rather than put his relationship first.

I think Brad is slowly being seduced and eventually Toni (or even better Dirk) will catch Brad in a compromising position with Ann. Ann could easily claim Brad sexually harassed her. HR would definitely take Ann’s side. Brad could get ruined all around if not careful.

" “Brad recognized that her demands weren’t right, and sold out to keep things “peaceful” rather than put his relationship first.”..and, spreading the blame around a little, Toni messed up by going against Brad’s express wishes and interfered with his employer."

See, this is where you and I part company. I think Brad was disloyal to Toni from the outset as soon as he asked her to roll over and appease Ann Eiffel – he not only sold out, he asked her to do the same. You characterize that as his “wanting to be a man, but doing a bad job of it.” (paraphrased, your original was funnier).

I think if someone makes a really unreasonable demand like that they really have no grounds to get pissy if someone decides to “disobey” them, when their intent – at the outset, at least – is to stand up for their rights. And they’re really off base if the moral high ground they’re claiming is that other’s being disloyal. That’s so ironic it’s almost grotesque.

But I do think you have it back to front – Ann “interfered” with Toni first, and she did it thru Brad to display her power. When she went to WW she thought Brad was on the premises – the fact that he was running an errand for Ann doesn’t means she intended to go behind his back.

But Toni was stupidly shortsighted in not realizing there was no way she could accost Ann Eiffel about her treatment of her personally without involving Brad – the whole reason Ann targeted her in the first place was because of him, so her thinking she could set things right in a vacuum was pretty foolish.

On the other hand, if Brad had been a stand-up guy from the outset, Toni wouldn’t have had cause to fight for anything, so if it’s “blame” at stake here, Brad needs to cop to his fair share and not put it all on Toni – or Ann.

Yeah, it’s not fun when your woman’s not letting you fight your battles, but it’s no fun for the woman when the “man” in the relationship rolls over and plays dead, and asks that they do the same.

the police have ‘wires’ available to all comers just inside the front door”

Now where would that front door be? Aside from the fact that it would involve using much-needed municipal funds to provide supplies so that people could run around playing “Bored To Death”, it would also put the police in a position of encouraging citizens to violate privacy laws – using taxpayer money.

P.S. The ones at WallyWorld are crap, all you hear is your clothes moving around the mic – and very few people stand at attention when they need to record someone. For a decent body wire, go to a shop that specializes in surveillance equipment.

P.P.S. Since there’s no unemployment in Pitts, and apparently no private ambulance or EMT service, and Brad’s job search was all of 15 seconds, and his minimum wage job will apparently allow him to meet all of his financial obligations, including rent on half a house, attempting to overlay a “keeping any job” current reality onto a comic that only has a limited version of same isn’t very…uh…realistic.
