TJ: "Ox is gonna show your "witness statement" to his uncle... the lawyer. Nice"
TJ: "Isn't it illegal to fake witnesses?"
Ann: "Ox?"
TJ: "Wonder how you'll look in an orange prison outfit"
Ann: "OX!"
Ox: "Hey! Now you're bullying!"
I think we’re near the end of AE’s role in this comic. She has ‘hated and schemed’ her way out the door. I don’t see a way to save her, even with TJ’s help. He’s good, but not a miracle worker. She seems to have NO redeeming qualities.
I love how there’s a scuffle going on right in front of TJ, but he’s just leaning against the counter grinning and making comments. THIS is the TJ I know, not the guy who went crazy and busted up the black wall back when Shannon was snoozing in the laundry room.
Well, the paper IS Ann’s…but she DID give it to Ox in an attempt to get him to sign it…she took it back when she realized Ox wasn’t signing it….then Ox told her he’d have his uncle look it over and GRABBED it from her…so…both grabbed the paper but the legal owner of the paper is actually Ann…so in Luanniverse, nobody cares about that…everyone wants Ox to show it to his uncle…..but in the real world, it would be consider a theft of a sort on part of Ox for grabbing the paper from Ann. BUT TJ would swear that Ann gave the paper to Ox who never gave it back because Ann did not ask for it back – that she lied about Ox giving it back then had it grabbed out of her hands.
Boy, Ann really doesn’t get it, does she? Honestly, how has she ever been able to get a job managing anything, when she clearly has the worst people skills ever?
Oxford is too much of a gentleman to squash Annie Awful as she so richly deserves, but he might well deliver her to The Law, even if he has to pick her up and put her over his shoulder!
it is strange how they mentioned a lawyer for both ann and ox. could it be something tj set up so ae gets all fired up and tj adds fuel to the fire in a discreet manner.
All I can say is Hurray for ox!!!!!! So glad he isn’t someone that Ann Eiffel can walk over. Everybody deserves somen who will keep them honest.!!!!!!!
If the Daltons didn’t break out of jail every other book, Lucky Luke would be out of a job. Yet somehow, each adventure is just as fun. I think, however, that Ann’s towering arrogance and inhumanity would get old after this… I see her ultimate demise in the near future. And since this is a cartoon universe, I can hope that her end is mind-numbingly humiliating, to make up for all the horrors she has inflicted on her many subordinates.
This is the end of Ann. Though, I bet she may find her way out of this somehow. With Ox holding the paper, TJ as a witness, plus, any customers there,I am sure the police are on the way now. Also, Ox can file assult charges on Ann now for grabbing his shirt. I do believe TJ’s work there for revenge is done. The Eiffel tower is falling!!!!!!!!
Sure it is – a criminal conspiracy is an agreement between two or more persons to break the law at some time in the future; no requirement to put it into effect is needed, and repentence doesn’t negate the criminal liability you’ve incurred. The fact that you’ve produced what you know to be a false statement with the intent to coerce or bribe someone into signing, is subornation of perjury. If it’s done with the intent to collect damages, that’s conspiracy to file a false claim. .A perfect example is the woman who put her co-worker’s severed finger in the Wendy’s chili – she did it with the clear intent to file a false claim. She hired a lawyer to sue Wendy’s, but when reports of her history of filing false claims against corporations came to light, she thought twice and dropped the suit. However, that didn’t save her from criminal charges – she eventually pled guilty to conspiracy to file a false claim and attempted grand theft. .Aside from that, the problem with prosecuting perjury in a civil case is proving intent. Faulty recollection when it comes to Shannon “viciously attacking” her would cover Ann’s butt, but since she knows for a fact Ox wasn’t there, and he can testify to that, as well as her attempts to coerce him, this is actually becoming something that could be prosecuted in a criminal court. Her attorney would run a mile from this one, since a charge of subornation could easily attach to him.
Notice how with each comment AEs voice gets louder. I really hope that TJ gives her the cou de gras (excuse spelling I flunked french) and calls the Police. Maybe its time for Dirk to enter the strip again.
Knute looks like he needs Hair Club for Men! Hmmm…I tend not to call “cheating” outside of tests – this is actually plagiarism. And badly done plagiarism, at that. The second one? Totes busted.
Now OX has a witness to being bullied. OX dont do anything, Like past posts says police are on the way and you got a wittness to who put their hands on who. As said in a past post it is ILLEAGLE (sp?) to put your hands on an under aged teen even though they are 3 times your size and 3 times stronger than you.
Has anyone concidered the possibility of security cameras recording all of this as it is happening? Between that and filing a false claim on punitive damages ( a bite on the finger), false witnesses, and bribery, she could go to jail for a long time. I am not a lawyer, but I am aware of something like this happening once.
Ann doesn’t stand a chance in court. Assult on Ox, and Sannon (a minor) who was defending what was hers. Once you give a child something, you should not take it back. Right or wrong, Ann should have just left a 50cent piece pf paper go. If it was worth more than 5 dollars, I could understand. In the real world, any manager would do what it takes to bring in as much buisness as they can, no matter what the sacrifice.
But neither Ox nor T.J. wrote a testimony on the paper or signed it. The paper is totally irrelevant. I don’t know where Mr. Evans lives, but in my state police investigators handle assault cases, they don’t leave it for victims to collect evidence and witnesses…. This story is way out in left field already, and is just showing the ugly side of all the characters…
Your point is well-taken, but I have no doubt that Greg will conjure someone up just as despicable if Ann is written out for good. He could do months of filler strips with all of his other characters, and even show a bit of … what’s her name… you know, the one the strip is named for?
Ann going to get it when the bosses from Wienie World stop by and notice her true intentions. Just let Oxford give that Witness Statement to his uncle, and then the dogs from H-E-Double Hockeysticks will be unleashed.

Sine they’re carrying on in the middle of the restaurant floor (incident started when AE interrupted Ox eating), presumably other patrons are witness to the unseemly visuals of the store manager badgering a customer.
Yeah, and just how many of them are gong to do anything, object, or call the cops? None. You all overestimate the eagerness of the American public to get involved in anything that looks nasty, time consuming and might require them to have to bear witness to anything and sit around for the rest of the day being questioned.
Not until Ox commits battery on Ann will anyone call 911, and even then probably not.
Films are offered to members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences “for your consideration” – much as you obvously think the law has that caveat, it doesn’t.Theoretically”, nothing.
I certainly was not offering a defense for Ann, rather a defense of Ox for retaining the paper. Anyone offered a document to sign clearly has the right to read it first and make a decision. That is what I intended by using the word “consideration.” (which of course has other, irrelevant meanings.) I should have omitted the reference to the law there. My “theoretically,” was misleading and redundant: I just meant that this was one of the narrative possibilities.
So Shannon bites her, Toni laughs that Shannon bites her, TJ refuses to sign a witness statement regarding the assault, and Ox steals her paperwork and plays keep-away while TJ laughs at her from the sidelines. And Ann is the only one in this whole awful arc who is a bad person? yeeeeeeeah, okay.
Ann Eiffel isn’t going to be jettisoned from this strip any more than J.R. Ewing would be eliminated from “Dallas” (Larry Hagman’s even been brought out of his cryogenic chamber to do a TNT version of “Dallas” this year) for the same reason: Villains are compelling characters to audiences, who live to either see them get served a heaping bowl of justice OR to see how they’ll get out of what they’ve done.
Look at all the comments that get posted on these boards whenever Ann Eiffel is in the mix: That’s not an accident. Characters like her are comic gold.
Can’t wait to see Ann get what she deserves. An old boss of mine was almost as bad. I quit after six months! Found out years later that his wife left him and he wasn’t a boss any more! Payback’s a bitch!
Yes it is illegal in American federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 1622 provides: “Whoever procures another to commit any perjury is guilty of subornation of perjury, and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.” The court isn’t going to be impressed when Ann says that I tried to get him to commit purgry but it’s ok because I hadn’t filed with the court.
I hear that Timmy Turner and his fairies are real also. Yay!.Boy, with the roof of his parent’s house always being ripped off by some sort of fiendish villain or the like, I hope his (apparently very rich) parents didn’t invest TOO much in the Facebook IPO debacle…
“Yes I did try to convince a minor to lie to this court, but he didn’t actually sign it and I wasn’t sure if I would use the false evidence ….” yeah don’t see a Judge having any sympathy. Weighing your options means “Do I have enough ligitimate evidence to sue?” or “Do I really want to sue a 5 year old for biting me?” not “hmm Maybe I can create a criminal conspircy to bribe witnesses to commit purgery, fake evidence all while contributing to the delinquency of a minor” maybe having the thought won’t get you put in jail but the act certainly will.
?Well, either I got bleeped or I forgot to hit submit. Guess I’ll never know. I was just wondering if since Ann grabbed a fistful of Ox’s shirt, might it be okay for him to grab a handful of her shirt?
See my earlier answer. In the real world, her attorney would have first deposed Ox and drawn up a witness statement for him to sign. Ann seems to be acting pro se here, even though she has counsel, but then it’s the Luanniverse and why wreck a great attempt to intimidate? . Anyhoo, if she coerced him to sign and knew that he didn’t witness the event, that would be subornation of perjury on her part. If it can be proved her attorney knew the statement was false, the charge would also attach to him. You can also add conspiracy to file a false claim since the false statement would be integral to the damage suit. Again, proving this guilty knowledge is the trick..But since Ox has stated he didn’t see it, and we know that she is aware he wasn’t there, her actions re coercion and bribery are an indication of guilty conduct, or actus reus. She can claim she’s just “considering her options” til the cows come home, but criminal liability has already attached to her actions, and repentence or a delay in bringing suit doesn’t negate that. Getting someone to prosecute is another matter..A conspiracy is what’s known as an inchoate offense or inchoate crime – which means a crime of preparing for, or seeking to, commit another crime. It’s conduct that’s considered criminal without any actual harm being done – and the harm that would have occurred has to be one that the law tries to prevent. That would include larceny, murder, fraud, false claims, etc.
Bingo – proof that Ox signed the statement willfully, knowing that it was false; and proof that Ann knew that his statement was false, are necessary bring to a charge of subornation of perjury. Again, you’d also have to prove that the perjury was material – in other words, that it had an actual impact on the outcome of a suit or out of court settlement. .Conspiracy, however, doesn’t depend on that. Ox could sign, and then turn around and testify against Ann in a conspiracy charge. How much he’d be believed, after being part of a conspiracy to commit perjury and filing a false claim, would be the $28,000 question. .In my real world fantasy, a prosecutor would give Ann the option to plead out and do the WW dishes – by hand – for the rest of the year.
@mojitobabyI don’t understand why people who think Ann was in the right (before trying to get Ox to sign falsly, at least) are called Trolls. I really like this strip, and always read it. But when the child bit someone and was praised for it, I thought it was going to be a lesson in how you shouldn’t teach a kid to do that. I figured that later Shannon would bite someone else, and when Toni yelled at her, she’d say, “But you liked it when I bit the mean lady,” and then Toni would learn how to be a better aunt. If Toni had apologized to Ann and offered to pay her medical bill if needed, then, yeah, Ann would be a bad person to sue over it. But the kid did bite her, and the babysitter totally didn’t care. If she really might have had a bit of nerve damage, she’d be totally right to sue them for it. I know this isn’t the real world, but I just don’t feel at all sorry for Toni in this situation, and TJ should sign the witness statement because it’s TRUE. Then if it ever went to court he could testify about how Ann provoked, and plus they’d probably prove she only needed a little bit of medical care not $28,000.
I have a puppy, and if a stranger tried to grab his chew toy and he bit them, I’d be really sorry and I’d give my dog a serious scolding and time-out. I wouldn’t want him to think biting people is okay.
I don’t know why that would be considered an opinion of a “Troll.” This is what I really think about this strip.
Shannon did bite AE so if AE sues, while it is a frivolous claim, it is not fraudulent. She is now unlikely to proceed because she cannot get any witnesses to testify. I do not think that either Ox or TJ will sue or report her to the police, for then they would come down to her level, and they are not that petty. This will be resolved without involving police by Ox’s father, or a business acquaintance who will be the owner of WW, and who will take exception to the way AE is treating her customers.
That’s pretty much it. A trust is a setup where someone creates a sustained benefit for someone else, and usually involves a trustee, or trustees, overseeing it. It’s a way to provide financial security or resources over a period of time. The assets can come from property, stocks, bonds, etc. and can have restrictions on when they’re disbursed to the recipient of the trust. Don’t even go into all the tax implications..A bank account means the funds are in your name, you have total discretion. And that means you’ll also have discretion to eat beans for the rest of your life if you blow the money on sheetrock repairs and having your teeth veneered. .What we don’t know is whether the account is offshore, or not.
Every once in awhile, I see that somebody is bored with this strip. Must be ADD because most people seem enthusiastic with the possibilities and outcomes. BTW is comeuppance the same as an uppercut? I don’t see Ox doing that to Ann. But he may pick her up and carry her to his uncle. I don’t think that’s kidnapping, but it may be Habeas Corpus (“may you have the body”).
I have to laugh about how many versions people who witnessed this would come up with! Depending on whether they heard the dialogue, their take on who did what to whom, etc., it would astound you just how far apart “eyewitness” accounts can be. .I still remember a ’91 accident at LAX where a USAIR 737 landed on top of a Skywest Metroliner on the commuter runway, and the impact and resulting fire killed 34 passengers. .Several “eyewitnesses” on the TV that night gave highly detailed descriptions of how the USAIR jet was on fire coming in for a landing – even before it landed on top of the Texas Sewerpipe. That was the moment when I realized that people are not only highly suggestible, but also have trouble processing what they see. Scary.
Once again, this late at night, too many comments to read, so if I am repeating what someone else said, so be it. But PLEASE TELL ME, THIS BEYOTCH IS FINALLY GOIN’ DOWN! :-D
She’s definitely getting desperate! Ann tends to lash out when she doesn’t get her own way, but due to Ox’s size the only one she’s hurting here is herself.
She’s already guilty of battery (assault is threat, battery is actual contact), and since she gave Ox the paper, she cannot claim that he took it without her permission. T.C. is a witness to that.
REGARDING:ItsAFreakingComicStrip“You people are all losers. Try to get involved in real life..This comic strip is a reflection of real life and concerns expressed here are real concerns such as justice, law, danger, hatred, blindness, revenge..The comments are a means of sharing with each other and that is also a big part of life, unlike attacking any with whom one disagrees. Well, okay, that’s part of life but an unpleasant part.

You might not want to be so literal in your interpretations – JimT8 has a good sense of humor, he was kidding.

TJ has access to a mysterious “bank account” set up by his dad before he split for Argentina, not a trust fund. There’s a HUGE difference.

Is he assaulting or battering it?

mojitobaby over 12 years ago

What I “get” is that you really must like that cattle prod. I may have to start using a car battery or just move straight on to waterboarding.

I don’t think that’s kidnapping, but it may be Habeas Corpus (“may you have the body”).
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Scary.

She’s definitely getting desperate! Ann tends to lash out when she doesn’t get her own way, but due to Ox’s size the only one she’s hurting here is herself.

Sadly, people have been executed in this country and elsewhere – solely on eyewitness testimony. Pretty sobering to consider.

Keep Toni out of this….she’s built like an Amazon. You know, even I am starting to miss Luann and Bernice.
