Wait…she drove three hours to interview with Miss Phelps? o_O

Uh-Huh. Tell Her WHY, Bern.

The WHOLE Reason.

The TRUTH.

Because unless You come CLEAN, You’re Gonna Feel Guilty everyday on account of the Fact that YOU called the Nice Lady that GOT You this Job “Incompetent”.

I think Phelps already has your profile…..

I can understand how Bernice feels….an ‘interview’ does not seem real until you’re actually in the room with the interviewer. It’s even that much more difficult to handle one when one’s nerves have been through an emotional wringer as Bernice’s have just been. She needs time to regroup her thoughts …even a brief shower would have been a big help to her.

Ms. Phelps is being very considerate by not asking the obvious question .. … what happened to you?

Wow. That IS impressive. A five star spin and total obfuscation of intent!

OMG, People…….this is a comic strip! You have nothing better to do? Anyway, time to return to Brad’s girlfriend. If we hurry, we can maybe catch her in the tub.

This is the insight into the cycle of human nature. “Back to the future”, if you will. Perhaps in the mind of Mizz Phelps Bernice reminds her of herself, in her “salad days” growing up (doing and saying the same things about the mentors/teachers/adults aronund her, thinking they were clueless, and also maybe she had a propensity towards fumbling during awkward moments… but over time the light came on and she polished her “raw potential” into a “method for her madness”… -—“Maybe her next words would be: “Bernice, I see a lot of myself in you”….

Look at today’s Moderately Confused comic strip. It’s Luann & Bernice after college. & what the “Luann” says is perfect for her. LOL

And one life’s lesson learned… Maybe.

Generally speaking, we as people put down counselors when we are young (and some later on) as though they don’t do or know anything, and yet, the world is filled with people paid to listen to us open up our closet of “baggage and bones” and clean them out (or maybe just rearrange the closet a little)…..--I guess if guidance and knowledge is a well of water and a banquet of food, we don’t care much until we’re reeealy hungry and thirsty….

“Exactly! And I want to counsel others to avoid doing things which will get them ticketed or otherwise harm their futures. I brought this ticket as an example, a prop.”

OK, I was totally thinking a different type of counselor.

Wow. You’re good.

Bernice should just be honest and tell her the same thing she told Delta.

But only the first part.

Lol, I love Bernice in the hot seat! She’s so good at telling other people their shortcomings!

Why did Bernice have to take a road trip to meet the guidance counselor that works daily at her school??

Brdshtt, perfect response! Too bad a novice wouldn’t be able to come up with it.*How much these two have learned on this 3-hour cruise. Had fun, food, music, a plan. Had troubles & got out of them without the help of a man (store clerk, AAA, or cop). First interviewer (a practice interviewer) is a kindly woman who wants you to succeed.*And when they get back home with all these stories to share, will Luann listen?

What’s wrong with saying, “You,” which is the truth. No need to go into it further. Or, even, “I watched the way you handle the students at school.” It is possible to tell the truth without including the bad parts!

All that Bernice needed to say was “why you did Ms. Phelps” and the job would have been hers. Don’t these girls know anything ?

Halper. Apparently, Evans got the idea from rob and Laura Petrie’s neighbor, Millie Halper or Helper (it was spelled both ways in the shows credits)

You got the job!…..don’t listen to the question, you are perfect for the position.

Thus exhibiting poor behavior, and not setting the type of example that a counselor might be expected to provide.

The sad thing is, Miss Phelps seems truly pleased to see Bernice and seems to like and respect her. Too bad that this is wasted on someone who doesn’t return that respect.

Boy, after this story resolves, I really wonder which character will be next in taking the next step of their life….

Not only is the Refresh button back, but the “Load 15 more” button remains. Which means by button-deficit theory was wrong (or else they got another shipment of buttons in stock).

I wonder if Bernice might come away with a better appreciation for Ms. Phelps? Will be interesting to see how the rest of the story arc goes.

@seyleigh I have two daughter-in-laws who are are counselors. I always thought like you did, I never talked to a counselor or knew anyone who did. Now I know, they deal with kids on drugs, kids with problems at home, kids who are suicidal and also be sure they have the right credits to graduate. They do a lot of other things too. It’s a very stressful job!

But a rush to get here would imply poor planning skills. That can be learned but should have already been learned..Still, the best answer is the truth, “I have realized how important the job is for guiding youths to a fulfilling, happy life and want to do my part.” No need to add any poor examples she may have seen.
