It’s nice to see college student Luann actually doing homework but the subject of her essay is — one again — grade school civics stuff. Now if she were writing some major Electoral College controversy this might make sense. And is Frank trying to read what she wrote or is his eyes bugging out for some other reason.

Cal gets it and I think I do too. If you look carefully at the third panel Frank is sneaking a peek at what Luann was typing after opining how important knowing about the electoral college was. I wager that a lot more people know more know given 2016.

Let’s all remember that the last time an election was shown in the strip, Luann couldn’t be bothered to vote and lied to Delta claiming that she had. Also, I don’t know about you but I learned about how the Electoral College works in 8th grade Government class.

We have a system for choosing the president / vice-president where it is mathematically possible for a candidate to receive less than 28% of the popular vote and still win the Electoral College balloting.

Yeah, last night I had to look it up to Ser how many votes my state had… 10.

What troubles me is that all electors have to vote for the majority candidate in our state. It is more representative when electors voted in proportion to the number of votes received. If Smith gets 30% of votes, she should get 30% of the state’s electors.

Interesting. A kind of political statement just days before the National Election.

I would have thought that this Sunday’s Strip would have been an “after action” Halloween report, featuring Shannon complained about not getting the type of candy she really, really, wanted. (THANK You Greg and Karen!)

    Couple of points here:

    1) Once again We witness the young adults referring to college, but (so far) not being shown actually IN college. “COVID Protocol?” Since there HAS been “socializing” going on between characters that don’t live together in the Strip, the choice of not depicting a college setting is a bit odd.

    2) Funny thing about the Electoral College. Everybody HATES it until it favors Their “Presidential Candidate.” So is it “democracy” or “hypocrisy” in action?

    3) Luann SHOULD write paper about: How come, ever since Ross Perot, third parties been shut out of Presidential debates, and all but IGNORED by the media? (Answer THAT, Gayle King)

Popping popcorn, eating leftover Halloween candy, sipping COFFEE and waiting for the incoming FLAK. ;)

Just do it the way Canada does. You vote for the party you prefer. The party with the most candidates elected has their party leader become the Prime Minister (President). If the other two parties have more MPs (Members of Parliament) combined than the ruling party, it is a minority government and can be toppled if the combined parties total votes exceed the ruling party. Tends to keep the parties honest. Or as close to honest as possible.Your system is completely corrupt. Just like your current Supreme Court. Trump has them in his back pocket.

THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED TO MATCH THE VOTER PERCENTAGES IN EACH STATE. THEN IT WOULD MORE LIKELY FOLLOW THE POPULAR VOTE, AND THE RESULTS OF ANY ELECTION BE A LOT MORE HONEST. THIS NEEDS TO BE A NATIONAL POLICY

I am beginning to wonder about our college educational system. Two of LuAnns last assignments sound like they should have been in Jr High. Write about what you learned today and now a research paper on the electoral college. Its been a good number of years since I was in college but I can’t recall having “homework” similar to that at all.

Surprised no one noted that in the case of a non-majority in the electoral college, the House of Reps selects president, with one vote per state! Kind of gives weight to the relevance of the electoral college.

I know it’s late and nobody will probably read this but a few points:

The Green New Deal is trying to fix the environment without destroying the economy. And it’s’ not one bill but a bunch of ideas that will be individually voted on,

Bird Kills at windmills apparently can be greatly reduced by painting just one blade of the mill black. That seems to be enough to warn the birds away.

Bird kills at solar power plants? That must mean as solar heat concentraters. Yeah, those do seem dangerous but most solar energy some from solar electric panels which to my knowledge are bird friendly

For every job lost to coal and oil jobs are being created for wind and solar.

Old electric car batteries were, at one time proposed to be used for base storage at electric generating plants. Over time those batteries refuse to take a full charge and would be replaced at something like 75% capacity. Too weak for cars but just fine for load leveling work on the grid.

And considering the size of car batteries there would be economic sense to dismantle old batteries, reclaim the lithium and cobalt, etc, and make new batteries.

    So the future is managable
